Hayden understood and remarked, “Older people tend to think this way. My parents are quite different, especially when it comes to me; they worry a lot. Seeing you makes them happier than finding a mountain of gold. They feel that a significant milestone in my life is finally approaching.” Kevin felt triumphant and said, “That means I am exceptional.” Hayden smiled and replied, “Yes, indeed, you are very impressive.” The two chatted and laughed as they made their way to Fortress Hotel. As before, Kevin guided Hayden through the green passage to the rooftop swimming pool without disturbing anyone. Here, Hayden opened up to Kevin, while Kathryn finalized a deal with her client. After walking the client out of the hotel and watching them drive away, she let out a sigh of relief. After lingering at the hotel entrance for a moment, she called her assistant, Mr. Pedro Fraser, to pick her up since her car was being serviced at the 4S shop. Kathryn said, “Please wait for me inside the hotel; don’t stay outside. Even though it’s October, it’s still quite warm.” Mr. Fraser reminded her, “Understood, I’ll wait for you in the lounge area on the first floor.” He quickly hung up the phone. Mr. Fraser was Kathryn’s life assistant, appointed by matriarch Farrell after Kathryn returned to the Farrell household. Mature and dependable, Mr. Fraser proved his reliability through his work. Initially, Kathryn was hesitant to use his services, but after he demonstrated his capabilities, she became accustomed to his assistance. Furthermore, Mr. Fraser had assured her that he would remain loyal to her and no longer follow her mother’s orders. After spending more than a year together, Kathryn had come to trust that he would keep his word. She recalled her first days back at the Farrell house.
Her mother had given her Mr. Fraser to serve as her life assistant. Shiloh’s envious and jealous gaze revealed to Kathryn that Mr. Fraser was indeed a valuable asset. It was only later that Kathryn learned every generation of matriarchs had a capable life assistant by their side, trained at the Farrell family’s training center. The life assistant to the next generation’s Matriarch would first practice under the guidance of the previous Matriarch, who would evaluate the assistant’s character and determine if his abilities were adequate. The assistant would only be assigned to the successor once Matriarch Farrell confirmed her choice of successor and had no intention of changing it. This meant the assistant would be loyal to only one person throughout his life. Therefore, when Shiloh observed her adoptive mother assigning Mr. Fraser to Kathryn, she felt envy and jealousy. Although Shiloh had been raised in the Farrell household and trained as a successor herself, her adoptive mother had never arranged for Mr. Fraser to accompany her, despite the fact that he had trained with her five years ago. Deep down, Shiloh was reluctant to admit it, but she recognized that her adoptive mother was not entirely satisfied with the successor she had nurtured. This was likely the reason Mr. Fraser had not been assigned to her. Mr. Fraser arrived promptly and was the most powerful and dependable person in Kathryn’s life; even if he wasn’t always by her side, he would never be far away. Whenever Kathryn needed him, he would respond in the shortest time possible.
