While Serenity struggled to persuade Elisa, she was touched by the sisterly bond Elisa shared with her.
Before discovering they were cousins, Elisa had shown her great kindness.
Elisa was someone deserving of profound friendship; when she genuinely considered someone a friend, she wholeheartedly devoted herself to that relationship.
However, only a select few could capture Elisa’s attention and earn her loyalty as a close friend.
Aside from her former best friend, Serenity, the only other person to gain Elisa’s friendship was Jasmine.
“You need to talk to Mr. Johnson to understand his feelings. If he’s unhappy, please don’t fight for me, Elisa,” Serenity urged, holding Elisa’s hand. “Your happiness is what matters most, and I don’t want my personal issues to interfere with your relationship with Mr. Johnson.”
Elisa squeezed Serenity’s hand in return and smiled, saying, “Don’t worry, Seren. We won’t let that happen. I believe Remy will respect my decision. Besides, our plan is to get engaged first, so there’s no rush to get married.”
Although Remy felt anxious, he kept it to himself and honored Elisa’s choice.
In Wiltspoon, aside from Remy, who pursued Elisa, most men were hesitant to approach her.
They perceived Elisa as having a difficult temperament and feared she might cause trouble if she married into their families.
Additionally, their social standings were not comparable to that of the Stone Family. Everyone in Wiltspoon’s upper class knew Elisa was highly favored within the Stone Family.
Moreover, Mrs. Stone’s strong personality intimidated many.
Some believed that becoming in-laws with Mrs. Stone could lead to conflicts and strain family relationships.
Elisa’s eyes sparkled. If Mrs. Stone hadn’t stepped in, Remy wouldn’t have been concerned about someone taking Elisa away from him. Whenever Elisa decided she wanted to marry, he would accept it. It was Mrs. Stone who intervened, and with Julian’s involvement, Remy felt increasingly anxious. He couldn’t find peace unless he married Elisa.
“Seren, let’s not dwell on my marriage right now. I’m here to tell you that the situation between Remy and me is essentially resolved. I will get engaged to him once I choose a date, and Remy will handle the engagement banquet. Should we hold it in Wiltspoon or return to Annenburg?”
Serenity smiled and replied, “This is a decision for the two of you to make, so just discuss it.”
Remy cherished Elisa and showed her great respect. He was truly a quality man. Elisa continued, “I prefer Wiltspoon for the engagement. I was born and raised here, so I’m familiar with everything. However, I’m not accustomed to Annenburg yet and haven’t integrated into it in a short time. But with Remy being the fifth young master of the Johnson family, some might say that he is simply my business’s son-in-law since he is engaged and not entertaining guests in Annenburg. He loves me and supports all my choices, just as I love him and consider his feelings as well, not just my own.”
Serenity listened intently but felt unable to advise Elisa. This was a personal matter between Elisa and Remy, one that would greatly impact their lives and had to be decided by them together.
“Your wedding to Zachary is coming up soon, and we’re all quite busy these days. Let’s postpone the engagement between Remy and me until after your wedding.”
“Good discussion.”
When Elisa confided in Serenity, she wasn’t seeking advice; she just wanted someone to talk to.
Serenity smiled and replied, “You should approach this carefully. It hasn’t been easy for you both to reach this point. In the past, Zachary’s cousin, Mr. Reading, made Remy feel threatened. He viewed Mr. Reading as his greatest rival in love.”
Elisa blushed and responded, “That’s because he’s like a soldier. Mr. Reading believes I’m different from what people say. He looks at me with a certain appreciation and thinks that Mr. Reading has feelings for me. He’s worried that I might be taken away by Mr. Reading, especially since my mother arranged this match.”
