The bouquet of flowers he brought remained on Liberty’s desk.
Liberty quickly picked it up, got up, and chased after him, eager to return the flowers to Antonio.
However, Antonio walked very quickly, and by the time Liberty exited, he had already left.
Feeling helpless, Liberty stood there holding the bouquet, unsure of what to do.
Coincidentally, Duncan arrived.
Seeing Liberty at the restaurant door with the bouquet, he mistakenly thought it was meant for him. As Duncan was escorted by the bodyguard, a smile spread across his face.
“Liberty!” Duncan called out.
“Mr. Lewis, you’re here,” Liberty replied, walking down the steps with the bouquet.
When Duncan saw her approaching, he reached out for the flowers and said, “How thoughtful of you to prepare a bouquet for me today! But my birthday has already passed.”
Liberty, feeling embarrassed, responded, “Mr. Lewis, I didn’t prepare this bouquet for you. It was sent by Mr. Giles as an apology. I didn’t want to accept it. He left it and disappeared when I chased after him.”
Duncan, feeling awkward, took the bouquet as if nothing had happened.
“From your expression earlier, it seemed like you didn’t know what to do with those flowers. Let me help you with that.”
He gestured for the bodyguard to take him to a nearby trash can and tossed the bouquet into it.
Apologizing with a large bouquet of red roses?
Liberty hadn’t given it much thought, but Duncan was more suspicious, questioning Antonio’s motives.
Attention. He was vigilant. Duncan, feeling tender, wanted to protect a woman from him. He had waited for a long time, and he would never allow Mother Superior, who appeared halfway through, to interrupt him. Duncan quickly returned to Liberty and said, “Just accept his apology in front of him, and don’t keep that bouquet of red roses. It takes up space. I’ll give you one when the time is right; there won’t be room for this bouquet.”

Liberty smiled and replied, “Mr. Lewis, your words resonate so well that it’s hard not to think about them. Mr. Giles really did come to apologize.”
Duncan said, “Whether it’s an apology or something else, he knows his true intentions, Liberty. Many men are watching you now, so be cautious and don’t let them deceive you.”
Liberty responded, “I have been hurt by men in the past, so I won’t easily trust them. However, Mr. Lewis, I still believe in you. You’re different from the rest.”
Duncan’s character encouraged her to act with integrity. Others approached her likely because she was the older sister of the head of the York family and owned two successful restaurants, leading them to believe she was financially well-off.
Regardless of her business acumen, many sought to gain advantages from her brother-in-law through her connection to Serenity. Duncan, however, didn’t have to worry about such motives. If he had plans, they were rooted in his own aspirations; he wanted to marry her and become Sonny’s father.
