Camryn advised, “Don’t take their words to heart, and don’t pay attention to their nonsense. If you can’t believe them even when they are as close as your siblings, how can you trust them?” Trenton nodded emphatically in agreement. “Sister, I won’t let them manipulate me anymore.” Camryn responded, “In this family, you are the kindest and most principled person. You’re not swayed by our parents; you stay true to yourself and are very independent.”
Their mother often urged Trenton to bond with Carrie, claiming they were true siblings, but he ignored her. He had admired his elder sister since childhood, and no matter what anyone said, he wouldn’t change his habit of being close to her. “Sister, can you tell me what happened while I was at school?” Trenton understood that his sister could be harsh, but that didn’t mean she was without mercy. Initially, she had no intention of harming anyone. As long as the two aunts didn’t return to their maternal family to fight over property, she wouldn’t bother with them.
However, the cousins from the Joyner and Chandler families were expelled from Newman’s company by his sister. She explained that they had been overbearing there, even taking kickbacks and siphoning significant funds from the family business. His father had previously ignored their behavior because, as his uncle, he commanded respect, and the cousins didn’t dare act aggressively in his presence. Their uncles tolerated their antics. But with his sister at the helm, things changed. She was willing to fire anyone who was of no use to the company, regardless of their connections. Although they were simply let go without repercussions, this time, when Trenton returned, he noticed the tension.
Two aunts came to plead for forgiveness, crying and begging to be let go. Trenton guessed that they must have harmed his elder sister in some way, inciting her wrath and leading to the potential bankruptcy of both the Joyner and Chandler families. Moments earlier, he noticed that the aunts were dressed plainly and had even forgo makeup, a stark contrast to their usual appearances. This indicated that they might truly be in financial trouble. Camryn remarked indifferently, “It’s over now. The elder sister is fine, and they are the ones who have lost.” Although his sister spoke calmly, Trenton could sense the intense satisfaction she felt at that moment.
The elder sister didn’t wish to discuss it further, so Trenton refrained from asking more questions.
After a lengthy silence, Camryn suddenly said to her younger brother, “At the start of next year, during the lunar New Year, your second sister, Carrie, will be coming out.” When Trenton heard this, he grimaced and replied, “As soon as she’s out, she’ll turn our lives upside down. Sister, be careful; she’ll definitely align herself with the two aunts.” Carrie was the favorite niece of Brenda and Amy.
Camryn smiled and said, “I wasn’t afraid of her when I was blind. Now that I can see, I’m even less likely to be intimidated. She’s just a child spoiled by our parents.” Without their support and funds, Carrie would be powerless to act. It was widely known in Wiltspoon that Camryn was the head of the Newman family.
