Kiera quickly set aside the fast food box and chopsticks to fetch her father a bottle of fine wine and some wine glasses. Mr. Caron first poured a glass of wine for Julian and asked, “Mr. Bucham, do you drink?”

“Dad, Mr. Bucham usually has to socialize and discuss business, so he can drink naturally,” Kiera replied.

Julian smiled and said, “Drinking is essential for social gatherings and business discussions, but I usually don’t drink much—at most, two bottles of beer. For hard liquor, I only have one glass to avoid getting drunk and harming my health. It’s easy to get into trouble.”

“Mr. Bucham, you’re so sensible; you drink according to your limits and have a strong sense of responsibility,” Mrs. Caron praised Julian.

Julian smiled in response, fully aware of each member of the Caron family’s personality. If someone who really knew him were present, they would likely scoff at his words. Two bottles of beer at most? Thankfully, Julian managed to say this with a straight face, even though he could easily handle more than two dozen beers without issue. Besides, he typically didn’t even drink beer under normal circumstances.

Master Caron poured himself another full glass of wine, reminding himself to control his alcohol consumption while guests were present—his two sons needed to do the same. After the two elder brothers filled their glasses, Kiera wanted to pour herself some wine too. However, Mrs. Caron, who had just come out with the last dish, immediately stopped her daughter from drinking, signaling that she should maintain a good image in front of Julian.

“Mom, can I just have half a glass?” Kiera pleaded. Everyone else seemed to manage their alcohol intake, but she struggled. Mrs. Caron glared at her, prompting Kiera to purse her lips and ultimately relent. She then stood up,

She opened the refrigerator and took out a bottle of water. Although she couldn’t drink, she could still have a few sips. Julian noticed this but chose not to comment, as he wanted to make a good impression on his future mother-in-law, Mrs. Caron. Mrs. Caron had strict rules about Kiera drinking. If Julian allowed Kiera to have a drink, how would that reflect on him in Mrs. Caron’s eyes?

Julian, accustomed to gourmet dishes from various regions, found the simple home-cooked meal at the Caron household surprisingly delicious. After dinner, he lingered for another two hours before preparing to leave. The Caron family also rose to see him off, and Mrs. Caron expressed her concern, saying, “Have you found a place to stay, Mr. Bucham?”

Julian replied, “I’m planning to stay in a hotel.” Mrs. Caron responded, “There’s a hotel nearby; ask Kiera to take you there.” Julian couldn’t have hoped for anything better. Kiera quickly ushered him out the door and took him to check in at the nearby hotel. Once they were away from the rest of the Caron family, Julian asked Kiera, “Ms. Caron, do you enjoy drinking alcohol?” Kiera laughed and replied, “Our family, except for my mother, enjoys drinking and spicy food. My mother is from your province, where married people don’t eat spicy food, smoke, or drink. Under her supervision, we can only drink alcohol when we have guests.”
