Hearing this, Camryn looked up at him and asked with a smile, “Is she delivering? The last time I heard Serenity mention her due date, it was next month. Why did she have the baby now? This is half a month ahead of schedule, so it’s a premature birth.”
Callum replied, “It’s still early. Otherwise, we would visit Mrs. Stone at the hospital first and then return to the villa.” Mrs. Stone was Serenity’s aunt, and the Stone family and the York family were considered relatives. Since Mrs. Stone’s daughter-in-law had given birth, they should go and see her.
“You have the final say,” Camryn responded. She immediately stood up, saying, “I’m going to prepare some gifts. By the way, I’ve already prepared a few gold locks. Should I send them now or wait until the baby is a month old? When the baby turns one month, I suppose I’ll also need to buy a few new outfits.”
Callum said, “Just prepare some gifts to take with you, and save the rest for the full moon celebration. Have you already prepared several gold locks?”
Camryn went to get the gifts. As she took out the nutritional supplements, she said, “Jasmine has a baby, and Serenity has one too, so I prepared a few extra golden locks to give to the babies as greeting gifts.”
Callum stood up and walked over to her, watching as she took out boxes of supplements and placed them into gift bags. His gaze was soft and affectionate as he whispered, “Well, prepare a few more; we will have babies in the future.”
Turning to him with a smile, Camryn replied, “We haven’t even gotten married yet, so it’s too early to talk about having a baby. I heard Dr. Carden say that my current health makes it difficult to conceive, and I need treatment for a year and a half. If someone else can assist me, the investigation will take three to five years at most.”
Callum reassured her, “That’s alright; we can…
“Prepare more essentials for the baby in advance. Once she’s born, she’ll be a little lady of means,” Camryn smiled but chose not to elaborate. Since she wasn’t sure when she would become a mother, there was no need to rush her preparations. After gathering the gifts, Camryn changed into fresh clothes and left home with Callum. He thought that since he had visited Alice at the hospital, he would help Camryn get her medicine there as well. He planned to stay at Wildridge Manor that night since Camryn needed to take her medication daily.
The couple arrived at the hospital to visit Alice. The upscale ward where she was staying was bustling with many relatives and friends of the Stone family, all eager to see Alice and the newborn baby. When Callum and Camryn knocked and entered the room, most visitors had just left, leaving only Clive and Alice inside. The baby was crying, and Clive was pacing the room, trying to soothe his son. He nodded in greeting when he saw Callum.
“Why is he crying?” Callum asked, noticing that Clive was holding the baby awkwardly. “Is it because you’re holding him uncomfortably?”
He stepped closer to examine the baby, who appeared somewhat unattractive, crying loudly with her eyes still closed. Callum wondered why, given that both Clive and Alice were so good-looking, they had a baby who seemed less so. He kept this thought to himself, remembering that Grandma May had called the baby cute and handsome, though Callum couldn’t see what made her so appealing.
“I don’t know why he’s crying,” Clive replied. “After I fed him some formula, he dozed off for a bit. When he woke up, he just started crying.”
“Why are you crying?” Clive gently asked his son, but he couldn’t comfort him any further. Instead, he walked around cradling his son in his arms. The way he held him was not ideal, and when Camryn saw him carrying the child, she worried he might slip from his grasp. “Maybe he’s pulled something,” Alice suggested from inside. Clive then carried his son back to the room, with Callum and Camryn following. However, Callum lingered at the doorway connecting the hall to the room, while Camryn stepped inside.
