Pedro said, “Miss, there’s no need to call the driver. I’ll take you home. I don’t want to drink.”

“Whatever,” Kathryn replied, yearning for two drinks to celebrate the success of her revenge plan.

After finishing her work, Kathryn looked at the clock and realized it was already 11 o’clock at night. The employees who worked overtime had already left for the day.

As she stepped out of the company, she spotted Pedro sitting in front of the car, waiting for her. When she emerged, Pedro stood up straight and quickly walked toward her.

“How long have you been waiting?” Kathryn asked as she got into the car.

“Not long,” Pedro replied. “I waited for about 10 minutes.”

Pedro fastened his seatbelt, and once Kathryn did the same, he started the engine.

Kathryn instructed him to drive to the food stall, and Pedro smiled, saying, “Miss, I enjoy going to the food stall for late-night snacks as well.”

“I used to go there often,” Kathryn remarked.

Pedro fell silent. He was aware that Kathryn’s life had not been easy before her return to the Farrell family.

As the car moved forward, Kathryn leaned back in her seat, cracked the window slightly, and gazed at the street scene outside.

Jensburg was a large city, much like Wiltspoon. Even at 11 o’clock at night, the streets were alive with activity.

For nightlife enthusiasts, this was the peak hour.

Many people hurried past, likely other overtime workers like Kathryn, who had just finished their shifts. They zipped by on bicycles or electric scooters.

In the house they rented,

Their families were waiting for them. Kathryn felt a twinge of envy. Despite their exhaustion, there were people at home who cared for them, loved them, and cherished their children. She had money, but what awaited her back home? While she had parents, brothers, and sisters-in-law, none of them treated her with sincerity. Her adoptive father remained in jail, and her adoptive mother and the others showed no genuine affection towards her. She often felt like someone who was unlovable. If the butler hadn’t switched children over twenty years ago, perhaps she would have been cherished by her parents, brother, and sister-in-law, just like Shiloh was. Although Shiloh’s position within the Farrell family had diminished due to her scheming, and her sisters-in-law had grown to dislike her, Kathryn had to admit that Shiloh received more family affection than she did. The Farrell family truly loved Shiloh. “What are you thinking about, Miss?” Pedro asked gently. “Nothing,” Kathryn replied, turning away from the window. She didn’t want to share her thoughts; she wanted to keep her lack of love to herself.
