Liberty’s expression changed upon hearing this. She suspected that Matriarch Farrell had orchestrated a scheme to kill her by arranging an unexpected car accident. However, she believed Matriarch Farrell would not take direct action against her. The banquet was subdued, and the food was safe to eat. Her concern was that the car might be tampered with on the return trip, leading to an accident, so she opted to use Hayden’s vehicle instead. Matriarch Farrell was clearly targeting her, but she could not interfere with Hayden’s car, and she dared not confront Hayden himself. By sticking with Hayden, she felt safer.
Her bodyguards were provided by the York, Stone, and Lewis families, with each family assigning two elite bodyguards to protect her. Since she had brought them along, she felt responsible for their safety. She signaled to her bodyguards, suggesting they were all too inebriated to drive, and then she climbed into Hayden’s bodyguard vehicle. She also requested the Farrell family’s butler to arrange for their bodyguards to assist in driving back to the hotel.
Tragically, the vehicle she was in ended up being struck. After it overturned, it quickly ignited, leaving no opportunity for rescue. The car was destroyed, and everyone inside perished. Liberty found it hard to believe this was not aimed at her. If Kevin and Hayden had not come that evening, she feared she might have been among the casualties. Was this how her grandmother had met her end?
“The Farrell family’s bodyguard was burned to death,” Kevin said quietly. “There was no chance for rescue; the fire spread too quickly and was too fierce. Sister Liberty, let’s leave now; it’s not safe to discuss this here.” After Matriarch Farrell had invited Liberty to dinner, both Kevin and Liberty understood it was a trap, often referred to as the Hongmen Banquet, and they decided to leave the Farrell family mansion.
They were caught off guard, not realizing they were waiting for Liberty on the road. If it hadn’t been for the chaos caused by Holden and Shiloh’s affairs, Liberty might not have managed to escape successfully. “The Farrell family’s bodyguard died for me,” Liberty said softly. For the first time, she was entangled in a web of conspiracy and faced life and death. Hayden comforted her, saying, “Sister Liberty, it was Mrs. Farrell who killed him. If she hadn’t orchestrated the conspiracy, this wouldn’t have happened. Right now, this is just our speculation, and we have no evidence. We can’t take action against Mrs. Farrell for the time being. Let’s go back and discuss it later.” Liberty nodded. Once back in the car, she remained silent.
The Farrell family soon learned of the incident since it was their bodyguard who had perished. The other two bodyguards, who were assisting Liberty’s team, were following in separate vehicles. When they witnessed their colleague being struck by a large truck, causing the car to flip into the opposite lane and ignite, they immediately contacted the butler. They informed him of the car accident, leaving the butler stunned. Upon realizing that the vehicle involved belonged to Liberty, his expression changed dramatically. He soon understood that he might have jeopardized an important matter for Matriarch Farrell. The matriarch had not informed the butler, so he was unaware that Liberty had instructed her team not to drive after drinking and had asked him to arrange for someone to drive them back to the hotel.
After hanging up, the butler hesitated to inform Matriarch Farrell, as her room was already in disarray. Matriarch Farrell was furious.
Kathryn couldn’t remain still. She was so terrified that she quickly asked someone to bring over ginseng and stuffed a slice into her mother’s mouth. Shiloh and Holden had just woken up. Upon realizing what they had done, Shiloh screamed and fainted, while Holden’s face turned ashen, causing him to collapse on the ground. It was all a chaotic scene. “Mom,” Kathryn said anxiously, looking at her furious mother. “Are you okay?” Suddenly, Matriarch Farrell grasped Kathryn’s hand tightly, her face pale. With gritted teeth, she managed to say, “Throw Shiloh out now; get her out!”
