Kevin stated, “Mrs. Farrell was understandably furious. That night, Shiloh was expelled from the Farrell family. In the middle of the night, an ambulance transported Holden to the hospital. Mrs. Farrell prohibited anyone from following Holden to the hospital, nor did she allow anyone to accompany her. Anyone who inquired about Holden’s injury was dismissed.”

At this point, Kevin paused.

Liberty took another two sips from her unfinished cup of warm water. After setting the cup down, she gazed at Kevin quietly, awaiting him to continue.

Kevin resumed, “I sent someone to the hospital to gather information.”

Liberty inquired, “How was Holden injured? Did Mrs. Farrell cause it?”

Kevin responded, “Holden attempted suicide with a knife. I believe Matriarch Farrell was forcing him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have done this.”

Matriarch Farrell likely presented Holden with two options. The Janzen family, which supports Holden, relies on the Farrell family for survival. He wouldn’t choose divorce, but if he didn’t divorce, he wouldn’t be able to reassure Matriarch Farrell, which is why he resorted to self-harm. This was the only way to put her mind at ease.

Liberty blinked, feeling a bit dazed. She hadn’t anticipated this outcome.

Kevin didn’t elaborate on Holden’s injury, simply stating, “Holden is not dead.”

It’s challenging to uncover details about Holden’s injury since Matriarch Farrell has concealed it to prevent it from spreading. Such matters can be quite humiliating for a man, especially for Holden, who is the son-in-law of the Farrell family, thus leaving him without dignity.

Liberty calmly remarked, “Isn’t the experience of a son-in-law just like that of countless women who marry into their husband’s family? The roles and genders have merely been reversed.”

Kevin was taken aback and left speechless.

After a brief pause, Kevin said, “Sister…”

Liberty, my brother Duncan would be a good destination for you. Let’s leave the past behind and focus on our future, hoping for continuous improvement.”

He understood that Liberty’s first marriage had brought her considerable pain.

At times, when he listened to Liberty speak, her words reflected the many ups and downs of life, which evoked a sense of distress. Despite being in her early thirties, she had endured a lot.

In a time when many people opt to marry later, there are still individuals like Liberty who remain single.

Liberty had faced numerous challenges.

When mentioning the man who often found himself in trouble, Liberty smiled and said, “Your brother Duncan is likely on his way to Jensburg. He mentioned he could arrive by two o’clock this afternoon, flying in on a private plane. I advised him against coming here, as he has mobility issues, but he insists on visiting, saying he will leave right after seeing me.”

Duncan expressed that he could not feel at ease until he saw Liberty safe and sound.

Kevin chuckled and said, “Brother Duncan knows what happened last night. Are you worried? He can stand and take a couple of steps now. Even if he could only crawl, after hearing about last night, he would still find a way to see you.”

Duncan is a close friend of my eldest brother, and they have known each other for many years. Sister Liberty, I know both you and Duncan well. He is sincere in his feelings for you. If you think positively of him, perhaps you could give him some hope.”

Liberty replied, “It seems like everyone is on his side. I’ve considered this, and you can’t overturn a boat full of people just because of a single bamboo pole. Mr. Lewis is a good man, and I have feelings for him too. My relationship with him goes beyond just being a woman or a girlfriend, doesn’t it?”

As a couple, he struggled to find the right words. Duncan refrained from expressing himself because he was not yet able to walk like a typical person and feared he would hold her back.

Kevin quickly declared, “Sister Liberty, I am firmly on your side. If Brother Duncan ever dares to mistreat you, we will never forgive him. Remember, all nine of our brothers are your family by birth. I will always support you.”

Liberty responded, “Mr. Lewis won’t give you the opportunity to confront him.”

She still placed her trust in Duncan and believed that if they married in the future, they could share a loving life together.

Duncan was not like Hank; he wouldn’t behave one way before marriage and another after.

Hank had spoken heartfelt words during their divorce. He had once loved her, but over time, he sought to suppress her brilliance, using marriage as a means of control.
