The hotel security guard stepped forward and politely asked, “Sir, do you need assistance?”

“No, thank you,” Duncan replied graciously.

Although he had stayed at the Fortress Hotel a few times, the staff did not recognize him as the fourth young master of the Lewis family.

In fact, if Zachary were to visit, the hotel staff might not identify him as the head of the York Corporation either.

Kevin was the one responsible for managing all the hotels under the company, and the staff at the major hotels were most familiar with him.

As Kevin was seeing Hayden out, he happened to encounter Duncan walking in.

“Brother Duncan,” he greeted.

Although a bit surprised to see Duncan, he had anticipated his arrival based on Liberty’s comments.

Duncan had mentioned that he would arrive before two o’clock in the afternoon, and Kevin initially thought he had not yet arrived since Liberty had just returned from outside and had not gone to the airport to pick him up.

Now, seeing Duncan being escorted by his bodyguard, Kevin was pleasantly surprised and approached him with a smile. “Brother Duncan, did you come here by yourself?”

“Yes, the plane is parked at the airport. I rented a car before boarding, so after landing, I drove here. Knowing that you were busy, I didn’t want to bother you in advance, so I came on my own,” Duncan explained, glancing at Hayden.

Hayden stepped forward and politely extended her right hand. “Mr. Lewis.”

Duncan shook her hand and then turned to Kevin. “Kevin, you and Miss Queen still have matters to discuss. Please go ahead; I’m fine. Liberty mentioned she was in the hotel and would come down to pick me up.”

Kevin noticed Liberty approaching with two bodyguards and said to Duncan with a smile, “Sister Liberty is here; brother…”

“Duncan, let’s go first,” he said with a wink at Liberty, who shot him several glares in response. He then smiled as he sent Hayden out of the hotel.

“Did you eat?” Liberty asked immediately upon seeing Duncan, her concern for his well-being evident.

Duncan touched his stomach and feigned a pitiful expression. “After hearing what happened to you last night, I couldn’t eat. I haven’t had a single grain of rice from morning until now. I’m both thirsty and hungry.”

The bodyguard who had pushed Duncan suppressed a smirk, knowing he couldn’t tell Liberty that Duncan was lying. Although Duncan had skipped lunch, he had eaten breakfast and snacked on the plane during their journey.

A look of distress crossed Liberty’s face. She walked behind the wheelchair, took it from the bodyguard, and began pushing Duncan toward the elevator. “I told you I’m fine; don’t worry. I just arrived here a few days ago. How will you manage the future if you keep being so anxious? Even if you’re worried about me, you can’t starve yourself. You’re not a child anymore; you’re almost forty!”

Duncan replied, “My heart is fully focused on you, and I forget to eat and drink.”

“I’ll take you to eat first,” Liberty insisted.

“Okay,” Duncan agreed, relieved to see her unharmed and still chiding him.

In the past, Liberty had been stabbed by gangsters while saving Sonny, a memory that still haunted Duncan as he recalled the sight of her lying in a pool of blood. He was terrified of something happening to her again. Last time, he was able to help her; this time, he hoped to do the same.

He couldn’t be by Liberty’s side to accompany and protect her. It was entirely his fault that his legs were so difficult to move. Not only was he unable to follow her and keep her safe, but he also feared that he might inadvertently hurt her. Duncan promised himself that once he returned to Wiltspoon, he would dedicate himself to rehabilitation and work hard to walk like a normal person as soon as possible, so he could be with Liberty.

“Does Sonny know you came here?” Liberty asked.

What Liberty missed the most were Sonny and Serenity.

Liberty smiled and said, “He hardly thinks about me when he’s with his aunt.”
