Mrs. Caron turned to Kiera and asked, “What do you mean by apathy?”
“Julian’s condition is apathy. He only responds to one woman in his life. If he cannot find a woman who can elicit a response from him, he will remain emotionally detached. If he cannot be cured, he will have resigned himself to his fate,” Kiera explained.
Mrs. Caron replied, “I have lived for decades, and this is the first time I have heard of such a condition. So, if you marry Julian, you don’t need to worry about him changing his feelings for you, nor do you have to fear other women trying to take him away.”
Kiera responded, “Theoretically, that is correct. Julian has mentioned that he feels no attraction toward other women at all. After his parents learned about his condition, they arranged blind dates for him every day. Even when he skipped these dates, they showed him numerous photos of young women, hoping one would spark a reaction, but it never happened.”
Kiera shared everything she knew with her mother.
She continued, “His parents are very concerned about his future marriage. They worry that if he looks at a girl even once, they might think he is beginning to respond to her.”
Mrs. Caron was taken aback and asked, “How did you find out that he reacts differently to you? What happened between you two?”
After listening to her daughter, Mrs. Caron said seriously, “Daughter, regardless of whether Julian is sincere or not, you should not give yourself fully until the wedding day. Girls should maintain their purity and self-respect.”
“My mother often reads short essays or watches videos about girls who become pregnant before marriage. As a result, their husbands’ families may look down on them, and the promised bride price is often reduced or canceled. You won’t be happy marrying someone like that; people will judge you.”
“You shouldn’t become too involved with Julian, because even though I’m not saying…
I may be old-fashioned and struggle to keep up with the trends of today’s youth, but as a mother, I worry about my daughter being scorned by her future husband’s family. Even though she is engaged, it is essential to maintain that commitment. Once you receive the marriage certificate and become a legal couple, even without a wedding, I will no longer have to worry about you.”
Mrs. Caron was concerned that her daughter, being young and impulsive, lacked relationship experience. Despite Julian not having had a girlfriend before, he was older and had spent over a decade in the business world, gaining insights that Kiera had yet to understand.
She feared that Julian might convince her daughter to live with him before marriage and potentially get her pregnant.
Even if Kiera is the only woman who stirs Julian’s heart, the parents of the Bucham family might not express their true feelings openly. Who knows how they might perceive her in private?
Even if the Bucham family doesn’t look down on her, Mrs. Caron believed it would be preferable for them to marry and stay together.
She may be conservative, but that is how she chose to raise her daughter.
In their generation, it was rare for people to become pregnant outside of marriage.

Kiera whispered, “Mom, how could anything like that happen between Julian and me? I would never do anything without a marriage certificate. Julian won’t pressure me. The men around him know how to respect women and honor the choices of those they love. He must be that kind of person too.”
Julian had a strong bond with the young masters of the York family.
Kiera had attended Zachary and Serenity’s wedding and observed how the young masters of the York family treated women.
The York family’s feelings towards their loved ones were evident.
Mrs. Caron remarked, “I believe he is a respectful person. However, I want to remind you that you are still young and impulsive. Did Julian share how he discovered you were his destined partner?”
Kiera nodded and recounted how Julian had found her photo, kissed it secretly, tracked her down through it, and then used certain tactics to make her his savior. This was how they got to know each other.
After hearing this, Mrs. Caron responded, “Thankfully, he didn’t keep it from you for too long. He is open to confessing everything. If you feel angry, allow yourself two days to process it. He is a good match for you; he is older and will take care of you.”
Mrs. Caron appreciated that her daughter, who had a carefree personality, would be under the care of the mature, calm, thoughtful, and attentive Julian, which brought her peace of mind.
