Jasmine hummed, “It’s delicious. The moment I tasted it, I knew it was excellent.”
“Let’s divide it in half,” Serenity suggested as she entered the small kitchen, retrieved a fresh-keeping bag, and shared the sesame cakes given to them by Mr. Charles with Jasmine.
Jasmine graciously accepted the offer without hesitation.
Carrie, who was hiding behind the bookshelf and observing, was somewhat taken aback. Did these two women never experience cake in their entire lives? What kind of black sesame cake could possibly be that tasty? The two of them proceeded to split it in half.
Carrie felt a twinge of curiosity and wanted to discover how delectable the cake was that had captivated both young ladies.
However, as Mrs. Labbe, she had yet to become familiar with Serenity and felt too shy to ask her for some cake.
“Serenity, Jasmine, are you there?”
A familiar voice called out from outside. Carrie, still concealed behind the bookshelf, suddenly paled and grew anxious, recognizing the voice as belonging to Camryn.
Camryn approached, holding an umbrella.
The bodyguards arranged by Callum were trailing her. Whenever she was apart from Callum, the two bodyguards accompanied her everywhere.
Two bodyguards pushed a cart carrying several pots of green potted flowers.
Earlier that morning, Serenity had called Camryn, requesting her to bring some green potted plants when she was free to replace the original flowers in the store.
The few pots of green plants Serenity initially had were growing wildly. She decided to replace them and asked Camryn to take the old ones back to the flower shop to replant.
Camryn had waited for the clerk to return from delivering flowers before selecting some green potted plants for her grandmother.
“Camryn, we’re here,” Serenity replied.
When the two bodyguards from the York family saw
Camryn was respectfully referred to as the “Second Young Mistress.”
Carrie accidentally knocked several books off the bookshelf, causing them to crash to the floor.
“I’m so sorry, I knocked down a few books,” she said apologetically, quickly kneeling to pick them up and return them to the shelf. She then resumed her focus on the book.
Carrie remained silent, her ears perked up to catch every word from the three women nearby.
While her appearance had changed, her body shape stayed the same and her voice had only slightly altered. Mr. Labbe arranged for someone to teach her how to change her voice, and she practiced daily. However, since she had only been learning for a short time, the change was minimal.
Those familiar with her could easily recognize her by her voice.
Neither Serenity nor Jasmine knew her well enough to suspect anything. Serenity found her figure somewhat familiar, but she couldn’t place her face and thus did not let her guard down.
If Camryn heard her speak, she would certainly recognize her.
“Serenity, I sent you the green potted plants you requested.”
Camryn collected her umbrella and placed it in the designated basket by the door, meant for everyone to store their umbrellas.
Serenity and Jasmine both greeted her warmly.
“It’s a bit rainy and chilly today. You really didn’t have to deliver it in person. You could have just sent it with someone, or let me know, and I could have arranged for someone to pick it up.” Serenity took Camryn’s hand and added, “Your hands are so cold! Why aren’t you wearing gloves? You don’t want to catch a cold.”
“Cold,” Camryn said with a smile. “Whenever winter arrives, my hands and feet are always icy. It’s been like this for over a decade. I need to sleep for a long time at night just to warm up.”
The reason for this is that her body is perpetually cold, and her own mother is the one who suffers as a result.
