“Auntie, Uncle Lewis!” Sonny exclaimed as he rushed out. Spotting Serenity and Duncan from a distance, he quickly broke free from the teacher’s hand and dashed toward them with his small schoolbag bouncing on his back.
The teacher, startled, hurried after him.
“Sonny, don’t run so fast! Be careful not to fall!” Serenity called out as she stepped forward.
In an instant, Sonny reached Serenity and ran straight into her arms.
Serenity knelt down to hug him, but he squirmed out of her embrace and onto the ground.
“My aunt has a baby in her belly! When it grows up, if my aunt hugs my little brother, I will crush him!”
Sometimes, Sonny would touch Serenity’s belly and greet the little brother inside.
He even asked why the baby wasn’t a little sister, expressing disappointment that his brother hadn’t responded yet.
Serenity reassured him that in a month, when he greeted his little brother, he would start moving around.
By then, the fetal movements would be more noticeable.
With a smile, Serenity said, “It’s okay; Sonny isn’t heavy enough to squash his little brother.”
Everyone worried that Sonny might accidentally kick her in the stomach while playing, so they did their best to discourage her from picking him up.
Sonny, being sensible, remembered Liberty’s advice not to let Serenity hold him again.
However, Serenity couldn’t resist giving him a hug because she was just too happy to hold back.
“Uncle Lewis!” Sonny joyfully jumped in front of Duncan.
He climbed onto Duncan’s lap without hesitation, wrapped his arms around Duncan’s neck, and sweetly exclaimed, “Uncle Lewis, I missed you so much!”
Duncan smiled and replied, “Uncle Lewis missed Sonny too.”
He embraced Sonny, feeling completely soft-hearted.
“I didn’t see Uncle Lewis yesterday. As my uncle says, not seeing each other for a day feels like a separation.”
Sonny suddenly couldn’t recall what his uncle had said or the context behind it.
Duncan smiled and replied, “One day without seeing you feels like three autumns.”
Sonny responded, “Yes, yes, that’s right. Uncle Lewis, one day without you is like three autumns.”
Duncan grinned.
Serenity stood aside, watching Sonny and Duncan with a smile.

It was a bond that felt more affectionate than that of a father and son.
Those unfamiliar with them would surely mistake them for father and son.
Carrie had not yet left. She would never have a sister-in-law, and her presence here felt like a facade. Hearing Sonny mention Serenity was pregnant with his little cousin filled her with jealousy.
Serenity was fortunate to be expecting.
The weather was slightly chilly, and Serenity wore a thick coat, making it difficult for anyone experienced to discern her pregnancy.
Carrie frowned at how close Sonny and Duncan were.
Both Serenity and Liberty were strong women.
One had firmly captured Zachary’s heart, while the other, along with her son, was successfully winning over Duncan.
Duncan had never been interested in women throughout his life. He didn’t desire the young and beautiful unmarried girls; instead, he wanted Liberty, a divorced woman.
Carrie recalled that Liberty had once been chubby and unattractive. She’d heard that Liberty had lost a significant amount of weight and now looked much more appealing. Yet, Duncan had fallen for Liberty long ago, indicating his attraction to her even when she was heavier.
Could it be that Duncan preferred women with a bit of softness in their arms?
“Auntie, did you bring my suitcase?” Sonny turned and asked Serenity.
