Rylee said apologetically to Camryn, “Camryn, I’ll have someone escort you inside. I’ll go greet Mrs. Labbe.”
Camryn glanced forward. Joelle had warmly welcomed Rosella and the others into the beautiful main house. Since she didn’t recognize the people around her, she asked Rylee, “Do you mind if I join you to greet Mrs. Labbe?”
“I hardly know anyone here,” she added.
Rylee smiled and replied, “Sure, let’s go see what Mrs. Labbe looks like. I’ve never heard of her.”
She was unfamiliar with anyone named Labbe among the upper class in Wiltspoon. Even the other ladies had not mentioned anyone with that surname.
Her curiosity was piqued.
Camryn said, “I’ve met Mrs. Labbe once, but I’m not sure if she’s the same person we’re meeting tonight.”
Rylee pulled Camryn aside, surprised by her words. “You’ve met Mrs. Labbe?”
Camryn replied, “Yes, a few days ago at Serenity’s bookstore. I saw a young woman who referred to herself as Mrs. Labbe. She was in her early twenties, quite beautiful, and adorned in jewels. She was there to purchase information for her brother-in-law, who is in kindergarten.”
Rylee didn’t catch the rest of Camryn’s story, fixated instead on Mrs. Labbe’s age.
She exclaimed, “She got married in her early twenties? Did she marry right after college? That’s quite young!”
Camryn responded, “I don’t think she graduated from college. She’s probably no older than twenty-one.”
Carrie never completed college; her grades were not as strong as Trenton’s, and she barely earned a second degree. She didn’t want to pursue further studies until she finished. Her parents spoiled her, and she felt secure in her family’s wealth, so even without a solid education,
concerned about food and clothing. If her parents had insisted she complete her college education, she wouldn’t have quarreled with Serenity and the others, and today’s situation would be different.
Of course, if Carrie hadn’t intervened, it would have taken Camryn much longer to confront her adoptive father and biological mother and seek revenge for her biological father.
Rylee remarked, “After we greet her, let’s keep our distance.”
Camryn looked confused. “Why? Rylee, do you know something about her? Is she not a good person?”
Rylee smirked and replied, “No, I’ve never met her and didn’t even know she existed. How could I possibly judge her character? She got married so young. Here I am, thirty years old and still single. It’s no wonder my mother is constantly pressuring me.
It’s not that I don’t want to get married. I’ve been hurt in love before, so I’m not rushing into marriage now that I’ve finally moved on. I’m taking my time to find the right husband. This time, I’ll heed my elders’ advice and look for someone suitable.”
After experiencing heartbreak and emotional pain, Rylee came to trust her elders’ opinions. Her past relationship ended because the other person abandoned her to advance their own interests.
Camryn smiled and said, “Even if we’re not perfectly matched, we shouldn’t be too far apart.”
“You and Callum are a great match, as are Elisa and Remy. Seeing Elisa happy gives me hope for my future. I believe there’s someone out there who will truly love me.”
Camryn replied, “Rylee, you will definitely find a wonderful guy.”
Rylee smiled and said, “I appreciate your kind words, but I’m really not worried.”
“I’m in a rush now. My mom is so anxious that she constantly urges me and my brother throughout the day. Since my brother is still young, he doesn’t have to endure my mom reciting sutras all day long.”
Camryn smiled.
Dealing with the elders who constantly press for marriage is more than just listening to their recitations.
Her elders would chant, and her relatives would join in whenever they saw her.
How many unmarried individuals dare to return to their hometowns during the holidays? And when they do, they inevitably face pressure to get married.
