The pain you cause others can easily return to you. Even if there is no immediate consequence, a conviction can lead to jail time, a criminal record, and a tarnished reputation.

The onlookers quickly scattered. They resumed drinking, chatting, and laughing, as if the earlier incident had never occurred.

Realizing that Camryn was not someone to be bullied and would retaliate when provoked, Rosella felt considerably relieved.

Joelle invited the ladies to return to the house.

Once the York family wives departed, Carrie approached Camryn and politely asked, “Second Young Master York, Miss Erickson, may I join you?”

“Mrs. Labbe, please have a seat.” Rylee felt a sense of fondness for Mrs. Labbe after witnessing her defend Camryn.

Younger people were generally more inclined to socialize.

Although Mrs. Labbe was married, she was quite young and couldn’t converse easily with the other ladies at the banquet.

Camryn graciously responded to Carrie, “I can’t drink alcohol because I’m on medication. Miss Levine mentioned me, and I see a bit of Carrie in her—a troublemaker. Whenever Carrie finds herself in trouble, she leans on my mother’s indulgence. My mother truly spoils her. If my mother had half the intelligence of Mrs. Levine, Carrie wouldn’t have turned out this way.”

Carrie was left speechless.

She wasn’t angry!

When she got angry, her flaws became evident.

She was Mrs. Labbe, not the second young lady of the Newman family or Camryn’s younger sister.

What Camryn said about her sister had nothing to do with her; it wasn’t her concern.

Carrie mistakenly thought that Camryn was testing her by repeatedly mentioning her sister in her presence.

Rylee was unaware that the two sisters were engaged in a covert rivalry. She picked up on Camryn’s comment and remarked that Samira tonight reminded her of Carrie in her younger, more vibrant days.

Carrie was arrogant and often found herself in trouble. Driven by jealousy, she was willing to go to great lengths, even plotting to harm Serenity without fully understanding her own limitations. Ultimately, however, an army of support led to her downfall.

Mr. and Mrs. Newman attempted to apologize, but by then it was too late. Carrie had crossed the line and broken the law. Serenity had gathered enough evidence to sue Carrie, resulting in her imprisonment, from which she was released not long ago.

The chaos initiated by Carrie also stirred various reactions within the Newman family.

By the time Carrie was released, Camryn had assumed control of the Newman family.

Mrs. Labbe forced a smile and addressed the two of them, saying, “Disasters often stem from careless words. Avoid spreading or believing rumors, and remember that others are aware of your actions. If you wish to keep something private, refrain from doing it unless you’re prepared for the consequences.”

“You’re absolutely right, Mrs. Labbe,” Camryn replied, gazing at her intently and acknowledging her wisdom.

Carrie, internally seething, wanted to scold her mother and felt a deep resentment. Her hands clenched into fists beneath the table as she struggled to contain her anger, fighting the urge to lash out.

Two bodyguards from the Labbe family followed Carrie, maintaining a distance that was neither too close nor too far.

After shadowing Carrie for a while, the bodyguards began to understand her better.

Observing her current reaction, it was clear she was on the brink of losing her temper.

Worried that Carrie might explode, which would nullify all her previous efforts, the two bodyguards moved quickly.

One of them approached Carrie and bent down to her.

The bodyguard leaned in and whispered, “Madam, it’s time for us to return.”

Once he finished speaking, he stood tall.

Rylee observed the two bodyguards, noting their fierce appearance.

Carrie then said, “Miss Erickson, Second Young Mistress York, I have some matters to attend to at home and must leave.”

Rylee inquired, “Mrs. Labbe, are you heading home already? Can’t you stay a bit longer?”
