Carrie lamented, “Didn’t I perform exceptionally well? Mr. Labbe instructed me to assist Camryn, and I did just that.”
She desperately wished she could cheer for Miss Levine.
A bodyguard remarked, “Second Young Mistress York only said that to test you.”
Carrie replied, “I feel the same way. It seems she is constantly doubting and testing me. Thankfully, she hasn’t put me to the test yet.”
The bodyguard replied coldly, “I hope she never does.”
Despite Carrie becoming more composed after her training, her character had already been established, and she still couldn’t measure up to Camryn. Camryn had tested her, but Carrie was unsure if Camryn had done so intentionally.
The bodyguard needed to report back to Mr. Labbe to get his perspective.
Half an hour after Carrie’s departure, the three wives of the York family returned with Camryn.
During the ride, Rosella asked Camryn, “Aside from Rylee, is there anyone else you’d like to socialize with?”
Camryn answered, “Not at the moment; their social circle is difficult to penetrate. They don’t seem interested in including me, so I have no need to force myself into their little group.”
Some celebrities were polite and had no ill intentions, but that was all.
Camryn had no desire to pursue friendships with them.
She was unfamiliar with them, and they didn’t know her well either.
There would be future opportunities for interaction. Once they got to know each other better, if they proved worthy of her deep friendship, she would consider forming a bond. Otherwise, it would just be a friendly nod.
While navigating the upper-class society of Wiltspoon, she didn’t require many friends, nor would she feel lonely. Her sisters-in-law were sufficient companionship.
Rosella exclaimed, “Wow, those friends really praised and admired you!”
Camryn smiled faintly.
“It’s great that I didn’t embarrass you, Mom,” Camryn said.
Rosella smiled back, “How could that be? My daughter-in-law is the best.”
However, Rosella did worry that Camryn might face bullying without Callum by her side, but after tonight, that concern was alleviated.
Rosella would never choose someone weak.
“We can’t say for sure that Samira liked Callum. She has never admitted her feelings or actively pursued him,” Rosella defended Callum, concerned that Camryn might misinterpret his intentions.
Camryn smiled and replied, “Mom, I trust Callum. He’s such a good person; it’s normal for him to have admirers, and unusual for him not to. Honestly, even Carrie admired Callum. Before my mom arrived, she mentioned that when she gets married, she wants to marry into the York family and become a young mistress.”
The mother and daughter discussed the personalities of the Callum brothers, ultimately agreeing that Callum was the best match for her. They noted that Callum was as gentle as Jade, a few years older, and knew how to care for others.
They both expressed their dislike for Rosella’s elder brother, Zack, due to his cold and serious demeanor.
Rosella was taken aback. She hadn’t realized Callum was so popular.
People only knew that Callum was nearly 30 and didn’t have a girlfriend; they hadn’t seen him pursuing anyone or being pursued.
It would take Rosella’s initiative to find someone for Callum. After a year, he would take the steps needed to end his single life at thirty.
“The son of the York family is just what she wants, and she doesn’t even recognize it,” Rosella scoffed lightly.
Mrs. Newman truly…
She dared to contemplate the situation. She would disapprove of Mrs. Newman and would never permit her son to marry into the Newman family, even if Camryn were absent. Mrs. Newman had a history of abusing her daughter from her previous marriage. There were rumors that Mrs. Newman had an affair with her husband’s brother when she entered the Newman family as the second wife. The two of them even went so far as to kill Camryn’s biological father for the sake of their own longevity. It was said that after Camryn was born, her husband’s brother assumed the identity of Mr. Newman and secretly conducted a paternity test, believing that Camryn was his daughter.
