Trenton was aware that the two sisters were not on good terms, yet he still decided to call Camryn.
As Camryn answered his call, she was walking down the mountain with an elderly woman and others,
admiring the redbud flowers lining the road.
She paused beneath a redbud tree to take Trenton’s call.
The flowers on the low branches were blooming right in front of her, and she could easily touch them by reaching out her hand.
After spending ten years in darkness, she had long forgotten the vibrant colors of flowers.
Now that she had seen the light again, the flowers in her shop appeared especially beautiful to her. At that moment, the sight of the redbuds also filled her with joy.
The blooming period for redbuds can last from November to April of the following year.
“Trenton, what’s going on?”
As she gently touched the flowers, she asked Trenton warmly, “Aren’t you in class right now?”
Trenton replied, “Sister, it’s the weekend.”
Camryn smiled, “Oh right, I forgot! I didn’t even go to work today and asked if you were in class.”
“Aren’t you going out? You have the weekend off, so you should spend time with your classmates.”
Trenton explained, “I usually tutor primary school students on weekends for some extra cash. Today, my student had a fever, so his parents asked me to take the day off. I decided to go to the library instead.”
“My second sister texted me saying she wasn’t feeling well. When I called her, she was crying.”
Camryn fell silent, listening intently as Trenton shared Carrie’s situation.
Trenton continued, “I asked her what was wrong. She said she found out she has a small polyp and needs to see a gynecologist for a minor surgery. I wanted to take time off to help her.”
“Go back to accompany her for the surgery, but she wouldn’t let me return,” Trenton said.
Camryn asked calmly, “Is it a small polyp? Is it a uterine polyp or a cervical polyp?”
Trenton replied, “Sister, I didn’t ask.” At eighteen, he didn’t fully grasp the medical details either.
Feeling embarrassed to inquire further, even with his own sister, he continued, “You want me to take care of her? She dislikes me so much. She doesn’t need my help, and frankly, I don’t want to help her either. She hates me, and I don’t have any fondness for her.”
Camryn understood the implication of Trenton’s call and responded directly. He anticipated her reaction and added, “Eldest sister, I won’t allow you to care for our second sister. I’m a bit concerned about her and want you to determine if she is genuinely ill or just pretending to be sick to ask for money.”
Camryn inquired, “Did you give her money?”
Trenton confessed, “She asked me to transfer some funds, as much as I could spare, so I sent her $5,000. I hesitated to give more, fearing she might be deceiving me.”
Camryn reassured him, “It’s possible she has a minor issue, and she is indeed asking for money. If you’re worried, I can ask someone to investigate further. I won’t get involved directly to avoid putting you in a difficult position.”
Trenton quickly expressed his gratitude, saying, “Sister, thank you.”
Yes, his parents had requested that he look after Carrie, even though he was clearly the younger brother.

“Sister, how have you been lately?”
Trenton felt guilty for asking Camryn to do something she disliked, so he inquired about her current situation.
Camryn smiled and replied, “I’m doing very well. You don’t need to worry about me, sis. Just focus on taking care of yourself and studying hard.”
She did not discourage Trenton from pursuing a tutoring role.
