When Kathryn dined out, she always packed her leftovers in case she couldn’t finish her meal. She was unfazed by the possibility of others laughing at her for doing so.
Having grown up in a rural area, her life with her adoptive mother had been far from good. She was hesitant to waste anything, a mindset that seemed normal to those around her.
Ten minutes later, Kathryn drove her car back to Farrell’s Group. As soon as she arrived at the company gate, several people approached her.
These individuals were part of her adoptive mother’s family.
They must have been waiting at Farrell Group for quite some time, yet they hadn’t anticipated her early exit.
When her adoptive brother turned around and recognized Kathryn in the car, he informed their adoptive mother. She then turned to look at Kathryn, and upon confirming her identity, she approached with her two sons.
Kathryn gradually brought her car to a halt.
She felt no fear in confronting these three people in her own territory, confident that they would not dare to touch her on Farrell’s grounds.
As they drew nearer, Kathryn rolled down her car window and coldly asked her adoptive mother, “What are you three doing here?”
“Kathryn,” her adoptive mother replied, forcing a smile. To Kathryn, that smile was more grotesque than tears.
Her biological daughter had died the previous night; it would be a lie to claim that she wasn’t grieving.
Calmly, Kathryn said, “If you don’t want to laugh, then don’t. Your daughter passed away just last night. You shouldn’t be laughing now. Even though she didn’t grow up with you, you always knew she was your daughter. Every time your husband returned home, you would offer him the best things you had to give to her.
It’s disingenuous to say you don’t have feelings. Now that she’s gone, it’s perfectly natural for you, as a mother, to feel discomfort. Don’t force yourself to laugh.”
The adoptive mother appeared haggard, as if she
She had aged ten years, and her eyes were red and swollen.
In Kathryn’s words, how could she not feel sadness over the death of her biological daughter?
“Kathryn…” The adoptive mother wiped her tears and choked back sobs. “Kathryn, we just want to come and see you.”
“I’m sorry for your past,” Kathryn replied coolly. “The past is behind us, and I don’t want to discuss it. You express sorrow for me, but since you didn’t strangle me when I was a child and allowed me to grow up, I choose not to dwell on it. You care too much.”
“After visiting, please return to your life. I’m fine!”
She had integrated into the life of the Farrell family.
She was becoming increasingly secure in her role as the young mistress of the Farrell family.
They need not worry.
They wouldn’t worry about her, either. Previously, their concern was whether she would establish herself and harm their biological daughter.
Despite Shiloh’s mistreatment, they remained their children, and the adoptive mother’s loyalty was always with Shiloh.
In truth, after discovering she was the biological daughter of the Farrell family, Kathryn felt envious of Shiloh upon returning home.
At that time, Shiloh was cherished by both her biological and adoptive parents and siblings in the Farrell family.
Though Kathryn was a true relative, they did not love her as they loved Shiloh.
“Kathryn, regardless of the past, my parents raised you. Now the family is struggling. Shiloh, can you lend us some money?”
