“Mr. York, have you received the re-examination notice?” Enrique asked Tatum once more.
After a moment of silence, Tatum replied honestly, “I just received a call from the butler a short while ago, informing me that I need to retake the exam tomorrow afternoon.”
Enrique immediately expressed envy, yet he said graciously, “Congratulations, Mr. York. There aren’t many candidates taking the exam this time. They are all staying at nearby hotels, which I have also visited. None of them have received a re-examination notice, and some haven’t even attended their interviews yet.”
Tatum smiled and responded, “Mr. Tran, have you actually visited them? We are competitors. Are you certain that others will be honest with you?”
Enrique paused, then replied, “We are here for an interview. We can’t afford to lie or employ tricks or conspiracies. Even though we are competitors, whether we tell the truth or lie doesn’t really affect the others, and we won’t incur any losses. Even if everyone prepares the same dish, different cooking temperatures will yield varying appearances and flavors.”
Tatum smiled and said, “Everyone is unfamiliar with one another, so I imagine they all have a sense of defensiveness. However, what you said makes sense. I’m not worried that you’ll visit me to discuss cooking. When I attended the interview, I didn’t even cook a full meal; I only prepared some snacks for the Ormond family’s second lady and the butler. They all said it was good, and the second lady even took a box back to the company to share with Miss Ormond.”
After that, he received a call about the re-examination.
There was no need to ask; Elora knew he was the one who made the snacks she ate.
Elora: “I was too hungry. I was worried I wouldn’t have the energy for a two-hour meeting, so I ate the snacks you made.” Tatum: “They taste terrible.”
You can’t eat it, no matter how hungry you may be.
Elora: That’s true.
Enrique was taken aback once more and then inquired, “Mr. York, are you better at making desserts? The Ormond family is also in need of a pastry chef.”

He figured that if Tatum could become the pastry chef for the Ormond family, there was still hope for him.
While cheating was not an option, Tatum was the first to be notified about the re-examination. Enrique knew in his heart that Tatum had a strong chance, which filled him with both envy and jealousy.
Tatum appeared very young—looking to be in his mid-twenties at most—but his culinary skills surpassed Enrique’s. This indicated that Tatum was naturally gifted as a chef. With innate talent combined with hard work, he would outshine many others.
“I’m the worst at making snacks,” Enrique suddenly fell silent.
His expression soured as he felt the weight of failure once again.
If he failed this time, he wouldn’t compete again, facing the harsh reality.
Some things cannot be achieved through hard work alone. “Ring, ring, ring…” Tatum’s cell phone began to ring again.
He pulled out his phone, saw that the caller ID was the butler from Fortis, and answered it.
“Mr. York, where are you now?” the butler asked on the phone.
