Zachary asked, “Evan, are you in Wiltspoon now?”
“Yes,” Evan replied, a bit embarrassed. “Brother, I was busy as soon as I got back. I didn’t even have time to return home or see Grandma. I wonder if Grandma missed me? I plan to spend two days with her this weekend.”
Grandma was like a playful child; they needed to engage with her.
Whenever they had free time, they enjoyed playing with Grandma. Naturally, she often played with them as well. As long as Grandma was happy!
“That’s for the weekend. Do you have time tonight? Your sister-in-law invited you to dinner at the Wiltspoon Hotel and asked you to come over this evening.”
Evan was taken aback and asked, “My sister-in-law invited me to dinner?”
Why would his sister-in-law invite him to dinner for no apparent reason?
Evan felt a bit flustered, sensing that it was unusual for his sister-in-law to extend such an invitation.
This might explain why he felt restless that afternoon.
Zachary said, “Yes, your sister-in-law said she would treat you to dinner. You should arrive around 5:30 in the evening. She and I will be waiting for you at the hotel. If you get there early, you can wait for us and order whatever dishes you’d like in advance.”
At their own hotel, they could enjoy whatever food they desired.
Evan quickly replied, “Okay, I’ll leave the company at 5:30 and should reach the hotel around the same time as my older brother.”
If his older brother or sister-in-law invited him to dinner, regardless of the reason, he would definitely go.
After agreeing, Evan asked cautiously, “Brother, what made my sister-in-law think to invite me to dinner? It seems out of character and without a clear reason. I’m a bit worried that I might have upset her without realizing it.”
“Brother, do you think…?”
“Do you know the reason? Please tell me. I’m mentally prepared and aware of my mistakes. I plan to apologize to my sister-in-law in person during dinner tonight.”
Zachary replied in a deep voice, “Why do you need to offend us before we can invite you to dinner? Your sister-in-law and I have extended the invitation.”
Evan responded, “No, it’s not that. Brother, I’m not afraid of your jokes. I’ve felt uneasy since the afternoon, as if something bad is about to happen. So when my sister-in-law suddenly invited me to dinner, it made me worry.”
Zachary pursed his lips and said, “To be honest, I don’t know why your sister-in-law wanted you to come for dinner. She just called me and asked me to reach out to you. If you’re in Wiltspoon, we’re all having dinner together tonight. I’ve informed you, you agreed. If you’re not there this evening, don’t call me brother.”
With that, Zachary hung up the phone.
Evan thought, “The source of my unease is here, but I still don’t comprehend what it is.”
He was puzzled about why Serenity suddenly wanted to treat him to dinner. Surely, it couldn’t be just a dinner among brothers?
Evan quickly messaged Elian, asking if he was in Wiltspoon. After receiving Elian’s reply, he asked if his sister-in-law had invited him to dinner as well.
Elian responded: “Brother, my sister-in-law didn’t mention anything about treating me to a meal. Why would she invite you? She’s clearly biased; she invites you to dinner but not me.”
Evan replied, “I don’t want that kind of favoritism.”
He felt increasingly uneasy, unsure of what Serenity’s intentions were. Zachary had said he didn’t know anything more either.
There was something even Zachary was unaware of.
Evan grew increasingly uneasy. Had he known better, he would have declined the agreement.
Now that he has committed, he cannot back out, or he will anger Zachary.
