Zachary was indifferent to Evan’s troubles. Regardless, his notification was set, and Evan had responded.
Even if Evan had suspicions, he would never dare to regret them. As long as he acknowledged Zachary as his older brother, he would not entertain any thoughts of regret.
Zachary called Serenity to inquire about the credit and to ask why she suddenly mentioned treating Evan to dinner.
Serenity smiled and replied, “Abby, Evan’s significant other, came to see me. Grandma chose her as a candidate for Evan.”
“Abby came to see you? How could she find you? Shouldn’t she be looking for Evan?” Zachary asked, surprised and slightly amused.
“Abby mentioned that sometimes Evan doesn’t answer his phone or respond to messages. She didn’t know his private address in Wiltspoon, so she came to me for help.”
When I returned to the office in the afternoon, everyone told me a beautiful woman was waiting for me. They assumed you were secretly trying to steal her away from me, thinking she was a romantic rival. “The so-called love rival came to ask me to step aside.”
Zachary’s expression darkened. “How could that be true? We’ve been husband and wife for a long time, and my feelings for you are as clear as day. Seren, trust me—I will never betray you. Even if there is a love rival, it’s not my doing; they approached me on their own, and it has nothing to do with me.”
He couldn’t help but feel frustrated.
Often, what they valued was not just him as a person but also his status.
Even if he felt embarrassed, as long as he was the leader of the York clan, others would remain infatuated with him. Besides, he couldn’t just ignore others’ opinions. Serenity often touched his face, and any scratches could leave scars. If there were scars, they would lose their smoothness, affecting how his wife perceived him.
Feelings.
This kind of behavior should never occur.
Serenity smiled and replied, “That’s what others speculated, but it wasn’t my intention. I trust that you won’t betray me or instigate any interactions with women outside.”
“I wasn’t aware that Miss Abby Du had come here for Evan.” Upon seeing her, I was filled with questions. Later, she explained that her visit was for Evan, which made sense. Evan’s actions were somewhat excessive; he pressured Grandma, who then revealed that she was trying to get closer to Abby and was very kind to her.
According to Abby, anyone who observes how well Evan treats her might think he is pursuing her. However, when Abby becomes a bit interested and Evan pulls back, he tends to ignore her for a while, as if he doesn’t know Abby at all when she tries to call or message him.

Abby doesn’t just come and go on a whim; she has her own temper. When Evan decides not to communicate, she tends to forget about him.
Yet, just when Abby is about to move on, he unexpectedly reappears and resumes his kindness. This cycle continues; he disappears again, ignoring calls and messages. Abby, frustrated, pursues him for a clear explanation. Unable to find Evan, she turns to me. Who said I was his sister-in-law?
Zachary suddenly understood, “I get it now. Evan is likely confused. Didn’t he mention that he often dreams about a woman involved with him, even though she isn’t the one his grandmother has chosen for him?”
He wants to honor Grandma’s wish to pursue his intended, but he also desires to follow his own heart. Perhaps he is more drawn to the girl from his dreams.”
Serenity added, “He must not have made a decision yet. If he had, he wouldn’t be lingering like this.”
“On to Abby,” Zachary said, “How is Abby?”
Serenity replied, “I have a positive impression of Abby. Grandma has good taste. If she was chosen by Grandma, she must be a suitable match for Evan. However, Evan has a dream girl, which complicates things.”
Serenity worried that Evan’s romantic situation might not end well.
The two women surrounded Evan, pulling him in opposite directions, leaving him in a difficult position. No matter who he chooses, someone will get hurt, and he won’t feel good about it either.
“I invited Evan over for dinner this evening,” she continued. “I also informed Abby that since she traveled a long way, she’s a guest. I invited her to dinner at our Wiltspoon Hotel, where she is currently staying. They need to address their situation face-to-face, as we can’t intervene in emotional matters.”
