Lydia glanced at the car’s sound while continuing to enjoy her barbecue.
“Grandma, I’m back,” Evan called out as he emerged from the car, a bouquet of flowers in his arms. Approaching Grandma May, he remarked before getting too close, “It smells amazing! Barbecue is perfect for this weather.”
Winter in Wiltspoon was unpredictable. Just yesterday, the cold had made people shiver, and the elderly preferred to stay indoors. Today, however, the temperature had risen. It was nearly noon, the sun was shining brightly, and it felt a bit warm.
During winter, they occasionally grilled barbecue themselves but usually only during holidays. Unlike Grandma May, who could indulge in food and baking whenever she pleased, Evan envisioned a future where he would marry, have children, and, once his son came of age, retire early to enjoy a leisurely, comfortable life like his grandmother’s.
He imagined it would be a life filled with happiness, more joyful than the gods.
“Fourth Young Master,” Sam greeted him with a smile.
The elderly ladies accompanying Grandma May, who were engaged in light conversation and gossip, also smiled and greeted Evan. They envied Grandma May most for having nine grandsons. Except for the two youngest, who had yet to enter society, the other seven were acknowledged as exceptional men with remarkable abilities.
Even though the two youngest had not yet made their mark in society, their impressive academic achievements suggested they would excel in the future.
The grandchildren were not only outstanding but also very filial and…
Be kind to Grandma May.
The York family was doing exceptionally well in business, which made Grandma May quite envious of them.
Typically, they would chat with her, gossip, or reminisce about their difficult past, but Grandma May simply listened, refusing to engage. She thrived during those challenging times and was very influential back then.
Only a remarkable woman like her could raise such wonderful children and grandchildren.
“Hello, everyone.” Evan was careful not to act like the fourth young master in front of his grandmother’s old friends.
Thanks to the company of these old ladies, who were her friends, Grandma was able to relax in the villa for a while.
“Grandma, on my way back, I passed by a flower shop and thought the flowers were beautiful, so I bought you a bouquet.” Evan handed it to her.
Grandma May smiled as she accepted the bouquet. “There are plenty of flowers in the field.”
“Old Madam, the bouquet from the fourth young master is a gesture of filial piety, wishing you health and happiness. It’s special, unlike the flowers in the field.”
“That’s right!”
“If my grandson gave me a bouquet of flowers, I would be over the moon!”
Several old ladies praised Evan for his thoughtfulness.
One of the ladies called out to Evan, “Fourth Young Master, come and try the grilled fish. Your grandma caught, cleaned, and grilled it herself. It’s delicious!”
Grandma May had mentioned that the fish she caught would not be eaten by Evan, and she instructed Sam to prepare fish and shrimp for him. However, she had saved some of her catch for Evan.
Timing it perfectly, Evan returned just after the fish was grilled.
He sat down and remarked, “My grandma is a master angler, and her grilled fish is top-notch.”
It seemed that Grandma was skilled in every area.
No wonder none of the brothers could surpass her abilities.
