Grandma May stared at Evan in silence.

Once all the words had been exchanged, Evan expressed whatever came to his mind, saying everything he wanted and needed to say.

Today, he returned to his childhood home to demonstrate to his grandma that he could no longer marry the woman she had chosen for him, unlike his brothers.

He had someone else he wished to pursue.

After he finished speaking, Grandma May sighed and remarked, “You’re right. Long-term suffering is worse than short-term pain. Abby likely doesn’t have strong feelings for you at this moment. You should be clear with her and give her the chance to move on.”

After a brief pause, Grandma May inquired again, “Evan, are you truly not considering Abby? Don’t you trust Grandma’s judgment?”

Evan replied earnestly, “Grandma, I believe in your judgment. You have keen insight. Abby is indeed a wonderful girl, but I don’t feel that kind of romantic connection with her. Even if I were to marry her, we would treat each other with respect, but there would be no genuine love between us. She is intelligent and surely doesn’t want that kind of future.”

“Grandma, love is love. If you don’t love, you simply don’t love. There’s no reasoning behind it.”

Grandma May responded, “Alright, since you feel this way, I will no longer interfere in your romantic affairs. You can pursue whomever you like, but there must be standards. You must marry a woman of good character. Even if she’s not perfect, she must be decent enough. Don’t tarnish the reputation of the York family. If your choice is someone of poor character and you insist on marrying her, that’s your decision. However, I won’t support such a union. At most, I will sever ties with you and disown you from the York family, and you will have no connection to us going forward.”

Her husband would not allow even a tiny flaw to ruin the whole pot of porridge.

Several

The generations of the York family, along with decades of hard work by her and her husband, have built a strong reputation for the family.

This reputation cannot be tarnished by Evan.

Evan appeared serious and confident. “Grandma, I know that if her character is questionable, I won’t marry her, no matter how much I like her. I understand how to choose a virtuous wife.”

Grandma May replied, “It’s good that you recognize that. Abby is currently at Wiltspoon. You should have a meaningful conversation with her on your own. I’m too old to manage everything. I hope you won’t have regrets in the future.

Additionally, if you find yourself regretting your decision today and realize that Abby is more suitable for you later, and you wish to pursue her again with our assistance, remember what you said today and don’t come to me for help.

Also, don’t bother your brother and sister-in-law. Your sister-in-law is pregnant and works daily. She is very tired and doesn’t have the time to deal with your romantic troubles.”

Evan responded, “Grandma, I am well aware that I have no feelings for Abby. Why do you always say I’ll regret this in the future? I don’t have regrets. I never regret anything I do.”

Grandma May smiled and said, “That’s good. Now, hand me my grilled chicken legs.”

Evan passed her another roasted chicken leg.

Grandma May ate the roasted chicken leg gracefully, gazing off into the distance.

She then said, “Evan, sit here for a little while. You should head back to the villa soon and have lunch at home. You told your mother you were coming back, and she is waiting to eat with you. In the afternoon, make sure to visit Abby, show her the cards, and be clear with her so she understands and moves on.

After all, Abby came to Wiltspoon because of you. She…”

You are hosting a guest and decide to prepare some Wiltspoon specialties for her, allowing her to take them home. “It’s an apology for hurting her feelings,” you explain.

Evan asks, “Grandma, do you think she will accept it? I rejected her quite sternly, and she reacted with anger and shame. Will she be open to receiving the specialties I gave her?”

Grandma May responds, “You can buy them and give them to your sister-in-law. She will pass them along. Seren will surely prepare some specialties for Abby to take with her. I already told your sister-in-law that you don’t need to spend any money. Just buy them and deliver them in your sister-in-law’s name; Abby will accept them.”

Evan replies, “Oh.”

What kind of apology is this?
