Titus was only four years old after the New Year, but his learning progress was much faster than that of his peers. The children taught by experts truly stood out.
Those who were not exceptionally qualified or knowledgeable simply could not keep pace with their education.
Of course, even if they were not particularly good at teaching, they still wouldn’t be able to reach these children’s level.
“My schoolbag is filled with so many ‘winter vacation homework’ assignments that my grandparents gave me as New Year gifts,” Titus said earnestly. “I am very happy!”
The last part of his statement came off especially harsh.
Jane couldn’t help but think that when this child opened his schoolbag and found it stuffed with extra “winter vacation homework,” she felt the urge to toss it out.
She also understood how much pressure Titus faced in his studies.
It was not easy to associate with a group of experts.
Yet, it was an opportunity that countless others could only dream of.
“Sonny and I are about the same age. I like both, and he must like them too, so I want to give Sonny such a gift. As for food, there are so many things he enjoys, and I can’t buy them all at once.”
Jane asked him, “Aren’t you concerned about money and hesitant to spend so much? Or do you really want to do all this extra ‘winter vacation homework’ and pull Sonny into it so you can share both the joys and burdens?”
Titus’s little face suddenly flushed with embarrassment.
Through his innocent thoughts, he realized that Mama Jane was quite perceptive.
“Titus, Sonny loves food. You can choose a few items to give him first. The next time you meet, offer him a few more. Give him something different each time to keep him happy. You don’t need to give him all his favorite foods at once. Also, since you want to give gifts to your friends, you should be generous. This way, you’ll feel joy in giving, and the
will appreciate. Do not harm your brothers for the sake of a small amount of money.” Jane spoke to Titus with seriousness.
“You have your own little treasury—I have never touched it, but I know you are not lacking in funds. It won’t cost you much to buy something nice for Sonny, so there’s no need to worry about money,” she explained.
Titus’s face flushed even more, and he murmured, “My master said I need to earn and save money, as I will need it for many future purposes. I’m afraid of spending it all.”
“Purchasing a few small gifts won’t deplete your entire savings. Just give gifts that are within your means. Moreover, if you want to earn money, you must do so openly, rather than being stingy or taking advantage of others,” she advised.
Could Titus really drive Sonny into poverty by giving him just a few of his favorite foods, especially when he already has millions in his treasury?
Perhaps Titus did not fully grasp the value of the money in his possession, as he hesitated to spend it even before choosing a gift. Not only did he refuse to give Sonny what he would enjoy, but he also considered giving him his winter homework, which he was reluctant to share.
Jane felt it was necessary to teach him with sincerity.
“Titus, you have learned much more than your peers. The amount of money in your small treasury exceeds what many people save in a lifetime. You can purchase many things. Tomorrow, when I take you shopping for clothes, I’ll explain the prices you’ll encounter,” she said.
“I’m not asking you to spend all your money on gifts, but to express your genuine feelings within your means, and prepare thoughtful gifts for your little brother that he will truly appreciate.”
“You won’t regret it once you’ve prepared it, you know?” Titus likely wasn’t aware of the prices and assumed that giving gifts would help him escape poverty. Moreover, his master had instilled in him the importance of earning and saving money, which made him hesitant to spend even a little.
Jane then asked, “Were you happy when you received a special New Year’s gift of a school bag? You certainly weren’t. If you were unhappy, why make your little brother feel the same way?”
“Sonny is about your age, but you both have taken different paths and acquired different skills. The calligraphy stickers you can write with and the addition and subtraction problems you can solve may be beyond Sonny’s abilities.”
Titus looked at Jane, who was squatting beside him, and replied earnestly, “Mom, I understand that I was wrong.”
