Chapter 649

“Elisa has finally let go of her infatuation with Zachary. We’ll inform her once she has completely moved on and can face Zachary openly, knowing that he is married.”

Clive sighed, “If she discovers that Serenity’s husband is the man she loves but cannot have, I can’t imagine the fallout. Although Serenity isn’t particularly close to us, she gets along well with Elisa.”

“I need to consider Elisa’s feelings.”

“However, Serenity is now your cousin, and her husband is your brother-in-law. If it is indeed Zachary, he will eventually need to visit us with Serenity. He can’t keep avoiding Mom forever, can he?”

It was acceptable if Serenity’s husband did not meet them, but Audrey was their elder; he needed to meet her.

“I’ll ask Zachary tonight if his marriage to Serenity is kept secret. Serenity probably doesn’t know who he really is. She likely wouldn’t dare to marry him if she did.”

Alice reminded him, “Serenity mentioned her husband is currently on a business trip and won’t be back for a while.”

“Why not call Zachary now and ask where he is? If he’s in Wiltspoon, then you’re overthinking things. If he’s on a business trip, he may indeed be Serenity’s husband.”

“Speaking of which, how did Serenity suddenly get married? Elisa didn’t inquire either.”

Clive pondered for a moment and said, “I have a feeling that Serenity’s husband is Zachary York. The day I coincidentally met him, he unexpectedly invited me to dinner. I suspect it wasn’t just because he was in a good mood; he may have been trying to impress me because he already knew Serenity is my cousin.”

Alice hesitated but agreed, “That’s a possibility.”

She added, “I’ll head downstairs now to find a chance to ask Serenity discreetly.”

“Be careful and don’t—”

“Let Mom or Elisa know. Even if we receive confirmation, we still need to keep it a secret to prevent Elisa from finding out and potentially clashing with Serenity.”

Alice nodded gravely, fully aware that she would take this secret to her grave.

She found it hard to believe that Serenity’s husband was Zachary York, the heir to the York family.

How could Zachary York get married so unexpectedly?

He had exceptionally high standards and usually kept young women at a distance unless they were relatives. He had always maintained a three-meter barrier between himself and women.

Convincing such a man to marry suddenly was more challenging than climbing to the heavens.

Even if he wished to marry, why would he choose Serenity?

“Let’s go downstairs.”

Clive hugged his wife and led her out.

The couple descended the stairs as if nothing were amiss.

Audrey was engaged in conversation with the Hunt sisters about hosting a banquet the following night.

“Everyone in Wiltspoon knows that I have been searching for my sister. Although my sister has passed away, I find comfort in having found you two. I plan to hold a banquet to introduce you to everyone and publicly announce that you’re my nieces. From now on, anyone who tries to bully you will be going against the Stone family.”

Audrey recalled how Liberty had been mistreated by her former in-laws.

While Liberty handled the situation on her own, Audrey mentioned it to Clive when she returned home, asking him to take revenge on the Brown family in a way that wouldn’t involve physical harm or legal repercussions. All he needed to do was ensure that Hank lost his job.

Hank’s sister was equally intolerable.

Audrey felt relieved when Clive assured her that he would seek justice for his cousin.

“Seren and Liberty, since you’re already here, please stay with me for a few days. After lunch, Elisa and I will take…”

“You two should pick out your evening dresses for the banquet tomorrow night.” Upon seeing the couple who had just come downstairs, Audrey added, “Clive and Alice, you are both responsible for sending out the guest invitations. Please invite everyone we know to the party.”
