Chapter 682
“Don’t worry. I won’t give Mrs. Lewis a chance to make things difficult for me. Please don’t be upset.”
“You’re so forgiving, Liberty. If I were in your position, I wouldn’t let anyone treat me that way. I’d make her pay.”
Liberty smiled.
How could she compare herself to Elisa?
Elisa was an heiress born with a silver spoon.
Liberty was an orphan who lost both parents at a young age.
“I’ve got your back from now on. If anyone gives you attitude or bullies you, let me know. I’ll take care of them.”
“Jasmine’s here.”
When Jasmine and her brother arrived, Liberty alerted Elisa to distract her from the previous topic.
Jasmine had dragged her brother along to the event to enjoy a free ride and indulge at the party.
It was a pity that Serenity wasn’t in Wiltspoon.
“Jasmine.”
Elisa and Liberty approached them.
“Why did you take so long, Jasmine?”
As Elisa moved closer and affectionately held Jasmine’s arm, many turned to look and recognized her. Some even began whispering among themselves.
“Isn’t she Mrs. Lowe’s niece? It’s been a while since I’ve seen her.”
“I bet Mrs. Stone doesn’t know what Ms. Sox did when she got drunk. She’ll be in for a surprise when Ms. Sox ends up on the ground like last time.”
“I heard Ms. Sox is good friends with Mrs. Stone’s niece. That explains why she got the invitation.”
“We should steer clear of her. She’s a joke.”
Unaware that she had become the center of gossip, Jasmine asked Elisa, “Was I late? I checked the time on the invitation, and I believe I arrived early.”
She then greeted Liberty and picked up Sonny before complimenting her.
Liberty smiled and said, “Your outfit today really highlights your curves, Liberty.”
“You can call me fat; it doesn’t bother me at all.”
Liberty was aware that she might face criticism for her own flaws. She had not managed her eating habits, so why should she try to prevent others from calling her fat? She had been working hard to reduce her size.
“I speak from the heart, Liberty. You have ample proportions and the potential to become the wealthiest woman in Wiltspoon.”
In response to Jasmine’s compliments, Liberty smiled and said, “So you’re suggesting I have the potential for wealth.”
“Let’s not forget that Mr. Charles predicted it would be challenging for both Liberty and Seren before they could enjoy a comfortable life.”
With Sonny in Jasmine’s arms, she and her brother followed Elisa into the main house of the Stones’ residence.
Drake had previously met these ladies and felt it was impolite to interrupt their conversation. Therefore, he quietly positioned himself as a wallflower, secretly hoping Mr. Bucham would arrive soon so he could have some company.
Ring, ring, ring…
Liberty’s phone rang.
Stopping in her tracks, she pulled out her phone and glanced at the display. The number indicated it was from a landline.
“Who’s calling you? Is it someone from your ex-husband’s family?” Elisa asked, noticing Liberty’s hesitance to answer.
“I’m not sure who it is; it’s a landline.”
After some hesitation, Liberty ultimately decided to answer the call.
“It’s me, Liberty.”
Liberty responded, “Mike?”
“What do you want?” she asked, her voice flat.
Mike chuckled awkwardly on the other end. “I heard you received a million bucks from your…”
“husband when you got divorced.”
