Chapter 684
Despite John’s relentless questioning, the human resource managers refused to disclose who, besides Stone Group, was sabotaging his professional career.
John suspected that someone was supporting Serenity and her sister. Initially, he thought it was Elisa, but now it appeared that a more powerful figure was backing the sisters.
Who could it be?
This individual had the influence to prevent anyone from hiring him in Wiltspoon.
Feeling disheartened, John resolved to wait until his grandmother was discharged from the hospital and his grandparents returned to their hometown before formulating a plan in the new year.
“What should we do now?”
Stuart was anxious. “Whoever is behind Serenity and her sister must be a significant player. They are responsible for our job losses and business failures. You’re feeling the impact too, even if you don’t run a large business.”
“Mike, we can hold a family meeting once your grandmother is out of the hospital. We should sincerely apologize as Serenity requested and see if that changes anything for the better.”
Serenity suggested they apologize for framing the sisters, damaging their reputations, subjecting them to ridicule, and exposing them to cyberbullying.
Mike was reluctant.
“It’s already bad enough. What’s so difficult about issuing a public apology online? We could give gifts to Liberty and her sister after the apology. We need to clean up our act and apologize this time. Things might improve once the sisters move on from this.”
Mike replied resentfully, “It was too much with Serenity and Liberty. Sure, we started it, but it was just a Twitter post. Yes, we hired people to troll them, but they retaliated as well. It’s been tough on us these last two months. We’ve suffered significant losses.”
“We’re even now, but the girls aren’t backing down. Must they push us this far?”
Mike was not ready to forgive and forget.
He added, “They can’t let go of their resentment toward us and continue to hold the incident against us, Dad. It’s likely we’ll never reconcile with the sisters. I bet they’ll try to reclaim their parent’s property.”
“That is our family’s home base. They’re married, so they shouldn’t have a share of the property. The girls don’t have the right to do that!”
“Dad, all children have the right to inherit property. It’s just customary in our town to leave the inheritance to sons.”
“What should we do now? We clearly don’t have the upper hand.”
Stuart said with deep regret, “We shouldn’t have done that. Your grandmother could’ve used her savings to pay the hospital bill. If each of us had contributed a little, it would have been enough.”
“But none of you was willing to pitch in. We tried to make the girls pay instead. Do you remember how Liberty reacted when we asked for family support during her wedding? We should’ve known the sisters wouldn’t be easy to deal with. They were just young ladies back then.”
Mike felt some regret too, but there was no use crying over spilled milk. What was done was done. The Hunts could only continue what they had started.
“I’ll see if I can find out who is supporting the sisters.”
Mike even considered killing the girls and finding someone to finish them off.
However, since Serenity had Noah locked up after his stunt, Mike had to abandon that thought.
They should apologize and move forward from there.
Mike would resort to more desperate measures if nothing changed after the apology was made.
Serenity is with him.
