Chapter 727
Serenity took hold of Zachary’s arm as they entered the store together. She smiled and said, “You’re right. If she doesn’t come to complain, we wouldn’t know that the Browns don’t like Jessica.”
Zachary and Serenity picked out several types of fruit from the supermarket and exited with two large shopping bags.
Upon arriving at Liberty’s rented house, Liberty began to nag them.
Liberty didn’t reprimand her brother-in-law; instead, she focused her concerns on her younger sister. “Zachary still has to pay off the mortgage. Even with his high income, he needs to save money. Once you have children, your expenses will only grow. I’m not in need of food or anything else, so you should stop Zachary from buying us things.”
“Liberty, your brother-in-law is just being kind, so you should accept it. If you’re worried about him feeling stressed about the mortgage, I can transfer some money to him later. Just consider it as me buying these for you, alright?”
“Also, I can’t help but notice that you’re showing favoritism toward Zachary. I’m your sister, you know?”
Liberty playfully poked her forehead. “Zachary’s family has been so kind to you. As your family, I also need to treat Zachary well.”
Liberty treated Zachary with the same kindness that the York family showed her sister.
As Serenity’s relative, Liberty seemed to favor her brother-in-law, but her true hope was that Zachary would treat her sister even better because of this.
Serenity playfully stuck out her tongue.
After lunch, Serenity drove Zachary back to the office.
Zachary, who was personally driven to and from work by his wife, smiled all afternoon and was in an unusually upbeat mood.
For the first time, he even took the initiative to invite Duncan and Josh out for dinner.
leaving him tonight to have dinner with Jasmine. Since his wife was out with her girlfriend, Zachary planned to spend time with his friends. He would also create an opportunity for a chance encounter to have dinner with his wife. After Zachary slept with Serenity, he became so clingy that he wanted to be with her constantly. Despite Serenity dining with Jasmine, Zachary felt a pang of jealousy at being left alone.
“I heard from the secretary that you’ve been smiling all afternoon. Zachary, you’re so easily pleased. Serenity just picked you up for lunch and dropped you back at work, yet you look ridiculously happy.”
Josh certainly wouldn’t turn down Zachary’s dinner invitation, especially knowing that Jasmine had also left him to dine with her boss’s wife. He felt a blow to his masculinity and a sense of inferiority compared to the boss’s wife. Thus, he entered Zachary’s office, ready to tease him as soon as he walked in.
Zachary had just wrapped up a conversation with Duncan when he noticed Josh. He set down his phone, choosing to ignore Josh’s jab since he was in a good mood. “You don’t have a wife yet, so you can’t understand the happiness of a married man like me,” he replied.
“You really know how to get under my skin with that,” Josh shot back as he took a seat across from Zachary.
“I’ve been working hard to win over my future wife,” Josh added, leaning back. “Once I succeed, let’s see if you can still flaunt your love in front of me!”
Zachary smiled and responded, “Regardless, you’ll still be single this year.”
“There are only a few days left in the year. So what if I remain single?” Josh thought of Duncan, the ultimate bachelor, and added with a grin, “From now on, we can flaunt our love in front of Duncan and show him what it’s like. Maybe he’ll get…”
“Triggered, he reflected on Duncan’s romantic life.” At the mention of Duncan’s love life, Zachary’s smile faded. “The elders of the Lewis family are concerned about Duncan’s marriage, but their expectations are quite high. They aren’t like our families, who are willing to accept our partners as long as we are happy with them.”
