Chapter 744
Jasmine and Drake bore a striking resemblance, both possessing attractive features. Drake was still youthful enough to pass as a high school student.
“That can’t be true. Initially, everyone assumed Mr. York might be attracted to men, but that turned out to be false. He even has a wife now,” Jasmine remarked.
Whispering, Jasmine continued, “Perhaps it’s because Josh is treating my brother exceptionally well. He practically spoils Drake and is even willing to lend him his prized sports car. You know, there are two things men typically won’t share: their cars and their wives.”
“I just feel that Josh might have feelings for my brother. Can you help me find out? If he truly does swing that way, I can’t let him get close to Drake again.”
Serenity was taken aback. “Have you considered that Mr. Bucham might have ulterior motives? His real target could be you.”
Josh was likely trying to win over Drake to gain his assistance.
For instance, if he invited Drake to dinner, Jasmine might tag along out of concern.
Jasmine was momentarily speechless.
Serenity chuckled. “You’ve read so many novels, yet you can’t recognize the tactics men employ to pursue their future wives.”
Jasmine opened her mouth to respond but found some truth in her best friend’s words.
Ring, ring, ring…
At that moment, both Serenity and Jasmine’s phones rang simultaneously.
Serenity answered hers first.
“Zachary, I’m heading out now. I’ll be at your company in about ten minutes. Please wait for me at the entrance.”
Meanwhile, Jasmine spoke to Josh, “Now that I’ve accepted your money, don’t worry about me not doing my job, Mr. Bucham. With me around today, no female employees will dare approach you!”
Josh laughed. “How domineering!”
Companion, whom he had spent a considerable amount of money to win over.
“I’ll arrange for a driver to pick you up,” Josh said thoughtfully.
“No need,” Jasmine replied. “I asked Drake to take Seren and me. He’ll pick me up after dinner.”
Josh smiled. “You never give me the chance to help, Ms. Sox.”
Jasmine laughed. “It’s not fair to trouble you since you’re such a busy man, Mr. Bucham. Seren and I are heading out now. See you later.”
“Sure, I’ll wait for you at the entrance.”
Jasmine hummed, hung up the phone, and said to Serenity, “Let’s go, Seren. The boss is on my case. We need to finish this task quickly and then collect the payment.”
Serenity laughed. “Didn’t he pay you all at once?”
“He said he was worried I wouldn’t keep my promise, so he gave me a deposit first. If I fail, I have to return the deposit a hundredfold; but if I succeed, he’ll transfer the remaining balance to my account.”
Serenity thought that Josh was casting a wide net to catch a big fish.
Eventually, Jasmine would take the bait.
On the way to York Corporation, Jasmine urged her brother, “Hurry up, Drake.”
“Jas, it’s rush hour in the city. The traffic is heavy. How can I speed up? It’s a miracle we’re not stuck in traffic,” Drake replied.
Serenity laughed. “Are you worried that Mr. Bucham will deduct your pay if you’re late?”
“I want to get there quickly to have a chance to meet Mr. York and his wife. Mr. Bucham mentioned that the CEO would be attending tonight with his wife. Mr. York gives a speech every year at the annual dinner.”
“If we arrive early, we might get to see him. Otherwise, I’m afraid we’ll only catch a glimpse of their bodyguards.”
Three months ago, the two best friends accompanied Rachel Lowe to the Wiltspoon Hotel for a banquet.
Although they did not see Mr. York directly, they caught sight of his bodyguards’ backs. Each guard was so tall and bulky that the girls couldn’t glimpse Mr. York when he was surrounded by them. Serenity couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you still being nosy about Mr. York? What’s there to gossip about? As long as he’s a straight man, it’s natural for him to marry a wife.”
