Chapter 765
Hank snapped out of his thoughts as he observed Liberty, who was still spilling over despite losing thirty pounds. He refused to indulge in nostalgia.
Serenity had bought too many items for them to carry, so they informed the mall concierge and borrowed a shopping cart to take their purchases out of the store.
“Liberty, please wait here with Sonny. I’ll go get the car,” Serenity said.
Her car was parked in the mall’s underground parking lot, so she needed to drive it out before they could load the items.
“Sure,” Liberty replied, agreeing to the plan.
When Sonny saw his aunt leaving alone, he panicked and cried, “Aunt Ser! Aunt Ser!”
Liberty reassured him, saying, “Aunt Ser is just going to pick us up, Sonny.”
This calmed Sonny, who had feared his aunt would abandon him and his mother.
Meanwhile, Hank and Jessica appeared, having made significant purchases of their own. They also asked the concierge for permission to take their cart out of the store.
“Darling, wait for me here while I get the car,” Hank said.
Jessica replied playfully, “Of course, sweetheart. But hurry! I feel scared being here all alone.”
Liberty felt nauseated. Was there really a need to flaunt their relationship in front of her?
“Dad,” Sonny called out to Hank.
Hank took a moment to cuddle Sonny and play with him for two minutes before placing him back in Liberty’s shopping cart. He then headed toward the parking lot.
Jessica stayed behind, gazing at Liberty, but Liberty had no time for her. “Liberty. Sonny.”
A familiar voice called out.
Liberty was surprised to see Duncan. As he approached, she inquired, “What brings you here, Mr. Duncan?”
“Lewis?”
She believed that a prominent CEO like Duncan shouldn’t be found in a mall. He could simply give a command, and someone would cater to his needs; there was no reason for him to come all this way to shop at a supermarket.
Jessica did not know who Duncan was, but the respect Liberty showed when addressing him, along with a quick glimpse of Duncan’s Porsche car keys, indicated that he was wealthy. Eager to learn more, Jessica eavesdropped on their conversation.
She wondered, ‘How did Liberty come to know such a rich man?’ Did Mrs. Stone introduce them?
Duncan did not recall ever meeting Jessica, but he felt the intensity of her gaze. When he looked over, he saw Jessica twirling her hair and smiling at him, convinced she was showing him her most charming side.
He cast a brief glance her way before redirecting his focus back to Liberty and Sonny.
“I saw you at the entrance of the mall while driving by. It looks like you’ve bought quite a bit. Are you taking these home? Do you need a ride?”
Duncan had a sharp eye and had spotted Liberty and her son from the road.
Liberty was at a loss for words. Why did she always run into Duncan while he was driving whenever she went out? Fortunately, she was standing two hundred meters away from the road; otherwise, her shopping cart might have caused a dent in Duncan’s car parked nearby.
Duncan had been traumatized by Liberty damaging two of his cars, and she often had nightmares about those incidents.
“Thank you, Mr. Lewis, but I’m with Seren. Seren bought these items for her in-laws ahead of their holiday meeting. She went to get her car from the mall’s parking lot and should be here any minute.”
Duncan’s eyes flickered. Was Zachary taking Serenity home for…
Christmas and New Year? Wouldn’t that jeopardize his cover?
