Chapter 807
Earlier, Jasmine had called Josh to inform him that her e-bike had run out of battery in the middle of the road. She attempted to push it back but found the distance too great and made little progress. Ultimately, she reached out to Josh for assistance.
This was the first time Jasmine had asked Josh for help. She called him to pick her up, knowing that he could give her a ride and provide comfort to her best friend.
If not for this situation, Jasmine would have called her brother instead, leaving Josh with no opportunity to assist her.
John motioned for Serenity to sit as he paused his plans to pick up Jasmine.
“Would you like something to drink, Ms. Hunt?”
“No, thank you. I have a few questions. Is Zachary the heir to the wealthiest family in the city? Is he your boss?”
After a moment of silence, Josh responded with a question, “Did you see Mr. York fawning over his wife during the interview?”
“Fawning over his wife? More like deceiving her!”
Serenity exclaimed angrily, “I watched the interview. I can’t believe that’s him!”
Josh carefully observed Serenity’s expression. She was visibly upset and furious. He silently wished Zachary the best, knowing he would likely face a lengthy struggle to resolve his marriage crisis.
It served him right!
He was the one pretending to be someone else!
Josh suddenly felt relieved that he had been honest with Jasmine about who he really was. Sure, it created complications in winning her heart, but at least he didn’t have to deal with the mess Zachary was in.
One misstep, and Serenity might just decide to divorce Zachary.
However, divorce was not an option for Zachary.
Josh knew him well; Zachary was a man who viewed love as merely a philosophical concept. For someone so emotionally detached to develop feelings for a
Zachary’s love for Serenity was unparalleled; she was everything to him, and the mere thought of losing her was unbearable. This fear drove him to conceal his lies with even more lies until he finally confessed today.
However, rather than directly admitting the truth to Serenity, he chose to go public with it. Had Jasmine not been so eager to spread gossip about Mr. York, Serenity might have been the last to find out.
The prospect of Serenity leaving him would drive Zachary to madness, and the repercussions would extend to York Corporation, leading to a disastrous outcome for everyone involved. Josh had no desire to witness such a nightmare.
“Ms. Hunt, the truth is what you saw. Zachary is Mr. York, the heir to the York family’s immense wealth, and he also serves as the CEO of the company,” Josh stated honestly.
There was no room for more lies with Serenity. Even though she had already suspected the truth, Josh’s confirmation drained the color from her face. Zachary was Mr. York, the man Elisa had loved for years—the man Elisa had openly declared her feelings for and actively pursued. Serenity had even assisted Elisa in winning Zachary’s heart.
Now, she couldn’t shake the fact that she had told Zachary she provided ideas to help Elisa in her pursuit of Mr. York. He had never given her a reason to doubt him!
That scoundrel!
It felt just like her nightmare; he had deceived her all along. He was a master liar!
“Ms. Hunt, Zachary has his reasons for keeping his identity a secret from you,” Josh interjected.
While he wanted to see his best friend face the consequences of his actions, the moment was not right. He had to defend Zachary before Serenity made any impulsive decisions.
Anyone would be thrilled to discover that their husband was the heir to such wealth.
Family, which had only a 0.001% chance of occurring. It was an unexpected leap in social status without any effort.
That was not true for Serenity.
She was not someone who aspired to ascend the social hierarchy or seek a wealthier partner.
What occupied her thoughts was how thoroughly Zachary had deceived her.
