Chapter 826
Brandt and the maids held their breath in anticipation.
After a prolonged silence, Zachary raised his voice and commanded Brandt, “Go fetch my phone charger for the missus.”
“Yes, sir.”
Brandt hurried off to retrieve the charger for Serenity.
Did Zachary allowing her to charge her phone indicate he might permit her to leave?
In truth, Brandt believed that Mr. Zachary should not keep Serenity confined and ought to let her go so they could both find some peace.
However, he dared not voice his thoughts.
Serenity was far too important to Zachary, and he feared she might never return if she left.
That was why he insisted she stay with him, but this only intensified the couple’s conflict.
Brandt soon returned with the charger.
He handed it to Zachary.
As Zachary passed it to Serenity, he instinctively grasped her hand when she took the charger and pleaded, “Seren, please don’t mention divorce again, okay?”
Serenity withdrew her hand and accepted the charger.
Turning away, she plugged in her phone.
Zachary panicked at her silence; he sensed she was still contemplating leaving him.
He couldn’t understand it. Yes, he had lied to her, but wasn’t his true identity deserving of her acceptance? Why was she considering divorce after learning the truth? An ordinary person would be overjoyed to discover their husband was a multi-billionaire.
Zachary’s lack of understanding blinded him to the fact that Serenity’s anger arose from his tangled web of lies and his betrayal of her trust.
In the face of Serenity’s fury, Zachary’s actions only made her feel more uncomfortable.
He had told her that she would not be able to step outside this villa without his permission.
He was imprisoning her!
To Serenity, his actions felt like pouring gasoline on a raging fire. There was no way she could calm down, let alone forgive him.
In any case, forgiveness would not come easily or soon.
“Seren.”
Zachary approached her.
Serenity turned on her phone, but as she saw him walking closer, she set it down and walked away.
She simply didn’t want to be near him.
Her coldness and detachment felt like a sharp knife stabbing Zachary’s heart, leaving his chest aching.
Serenity entered the dining hall.
Feeling hungry, she grabbed something to eat.
She never considered using a hunger strike to coerce Zachary into letting her go; he was not someone who could be easily intimidated. If she were to starve and faint, he would just call the family doctor to administer nutritional fluids to keep her alive.
In his words, he would not let her go—she would still belong to him in the afterlife.
Realizing he couldn’t be pressured, she questioned why she should torture herself by starving.
Brandt and the maids were taken aback when they saw Serenity enter the dining hall and start eating without regard for anyone else.
“Thank goodness the missus isn’t going on a hunger strike,” Felicia murmured.
Brandt wiped his brow and whispered, “Thank goodness.”
As long as the missus didn’t threaten Mr. Zachary with a hunger strike, the conflict between them wouldn’t escalate for now.
