Chapter 828

Serenity was taken aback to see her sister walk in. She quickly set her plate down and approached Liberty.

Zachary instinctively reached for her wrist.

Serenity shot him a cold glare.

“Seren…”

Zachary’s heart ached at the sight of her glare. It felt as if their relationship had reverted to the way it was on their first night—no, it felt even colder than at the start of their marriage.

Reluctantly, he released her hand, allowing her to continue toward her sister.

“Seren.”

Liberty hurried over.

When the sisters met face to face, Serenity collapsed into Liberty’s arms and began to cry uncontrollably.

“Seren…”

Liberty embraced her sister tightly.

“Let it out if you need to. I’m here for you.”

“Liberty…”

In her sister’s embrace, the dam of Serenity’s pent-up emotions finally burst, and she cried heart-wrenchingly for an extended time.

Zachary stood a short distance away, watching his petite wife weep. His heart ached, but he felt powerless to comfort her since he was the reason for her tears.

Ten minutes later, the Hunt sisters sat side by side, while Zachary occupied a solitary spot opposite them.

“Zachary, I came to take Seren home,” Liberty stated directly.

Zachary’s expression hardened as he replied in a low voice, “This is Seren’s home. We’re husband and wife. Her home is where I live.”

Liberty rephrased, “I’m here to take Seren back to my home for a while.”

“Liberty, you and Sonny can move in here instead.”

Liberty was left speechless.

“What does that mean, Zachary?”

“Do you really think this will keep her? You’re only making the situation worse.”

“Seren won’t return if she leaves. I won’t let her out of my sight!” Zachary insisted.

“You—!” Liberty’s anger flared.

“Save your breath, Liberty. He’s the type who only acts according to his own sense of right. Everything has to go his way. He doesn’t care about our opinions. He won’t even extend basic trust and respect to me.”

Instead of the previous anger and agitation, Serenity’s expression was now indifferent, as if her heart had gone cold.

“Where’s Sonny?”

“Mr. Lewis is still at my place. I asked him to look after Sonny for me.”

“Isn’t Sonny scared of Mr. Lewis?”

“He fell asleep before I arrived here.”

A realization struck Serenity. “I’m fine, Liberty. You should head back. Sonny will be frightened if he wakes up and sees Mr. Lewis instead of you.”

Serenity urged her sister to leave.

“Seren…”

Serenity reassured her sister, “Trust me, Liberty. I’ll be okay.”

Liberty glanced at Zachary, but he was focused intently on her sister, as if he feared she would disappear if he blinked.

Seeing her sister’s resigned expression, Liberty sighed deeply and said to Zachary, “Let’s take a walk. We need to talk privately.”

Liberty stood up and walked outside, with Zachary following silently.

Outside the house, Liberty paused and faced the brother-in-law she once admired and had always encouraged her sister to treat well.

She noticed that Zachary appeared both physically and mentally drained after confessing everything, yet she felt no sympathy for him.

They were all adults; they needed to handle their own issues.

ready to accept the consequences of their decisions.
