Chapter 864
Serenity ended the video call.
Zachary muttered, “She won’t even let me see Sonny.”
If he had known, he would have continued teasing Sonny, allowing Serenity to hear his voice.
Liberty glanced at her sister but remained quiet. Since bringing Serenity home, she hadn’t asked a single question. Serenity would open up when she felt ready.
Upon noticing her son’s face covered in gravy, Liberty chuckled and wiped it clean.
Serenity planned to go outside after dinner.
“Where are you headed?” Liberty asked while doing the dishes.
“I just need some fresh air. I’ll take your e-bike.”
“Stay nearby. The battery might not last long. If you venture too far and it dies, you’ll have to push the bike back. And wear a jacket; it’s windy outside.”
“Understood.”
“Don’t invite Jasmine out for drinks. Zachary is worried about you, and I promised him I wouldn’t let you drive recklessly or go drinking.”
Serenity’s mood darkened at the mention of Zachary. Though she was angry with him, he lingered in her thoughts. Everything reminded her of him.
She grumbled, “Liberty, I’m your real sister, yet you’re siding with him to control me.”
“I’m not taking sides. I’m prioritizing your safety. When you’re upset, you drive like a maniac and are prone to accidents. You drink, but you can’t handle your alcohol and get wasted after just two glasses. Then you wake up the next day complaining about a headache.”
Serenity was left speechless.
“I want to go, Aunt Seren.”
The little one immediately dashed over and wrapped his arms around Serenity’s leg as soon as he heard she wanted to go out for a ride.
She brought a child seat for the electric bike and told her sister, “I’ll take Sonny out for a few laps outside.”
“Be careful. Make sure to put Sonny’s hood on. His jacket has a hood,” her sister replied.
“Got it.”
Serenity then carried her nephew outside.
Unexpectedly, as she was pushing the e-bike out, she spotted Zachary loitering in front of the building.
During their video call, she had avoided letting him see her because she didn’t want to look at him, so she hadn’t noticed his surroundings.
She hadn’t expected him to be at the entrance.
How long had he been there?
Serenity observed that Zachary was wearing a jacket to keep warm. She lifted her nephew, placed him in the child seat, and secured a helmet on his head. She put on her own helmet before riding the e-bike away from Zachary.
“Seren…”
Zachary called out to her.
Serenity did not turn around or respond.
He jogged after them for several dozen meters, but Serenity accelerated, making it impossible for him to catch up.
After stopping, he immediately called Jim and said, “Go buy me an e-bike and send it to Liberty’s place. I’ll join Seren the next time she rides.”
Whether it was a two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicle, he would accompany her.
Even if she ignored him, he would feel reassured just being able to follow her from a distance and look at her.
Jim understood.
He promptly went to buy an e-bike.
After all, Zachary had traveled with Serenity using various forms of transportation during the months he had been hiding his identity.
