Agnes truly just wanted to speak a few more words with Isabella.

She was utterly desperate.

Tears stained the carpet beneath her.

Catherine looked at her.

Agnes had been with the Lancaster family for over twenty years, working here since

she was young.

She had raised Isabella, and she had stayed up all night keeping watch when Catherine herself was sick.

Human hearts are complicated.

Catherine closed her eyes; this sort of life-or-death parting scene was ultimately quite tragic.

She waved her hand. "Give her five minutes."

Saying that, she pushed Old Mr. Lancaster's wheelchair, escorting him back to his

room.

She didn't want this trivial drama to affect the old man's health.

Under Serena's care.

The old man was finally able to stand up.

They couldn't let all that progress go to waste over these irrelevant people.

The rest of the Lancaster family members filed out, not wanting to watch this spectacle either.

Only Isabella, Agnes, and a few expressionless bodyguards keeping a tight watch on them remained in the grand hall.

Agnes crawled weakly over to Isabella, her trembling fingers reaching out to smooth Isabella's messy hair.

"Get away!"

Isabella shoved her hard, her face twisted in absolute disgust. "Don't touch me! You lowly servant!"

"I have nothing to say to a worthless maid like you!"

"This is all your fault! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have ended up like this! Why don't you just die? Why don't you die?!"

She vented all her fury onto Agnes.

As she screamed, she raised her foot and kicked Agnes directly.

Agnes was struck in the chest and fell back onto the floor with a muffled groan.

But she crawled right back.

She grabbed Isabella's hand, only to be violently shaken off again.

Agnes was frantic; she quickly reached out and pulled Isabella into a tight embrace.

"Let me go! You worthless maid, how dare you hold me!" Isabella raised her hand and struck her.

A vicious slap landed squarely on Agnes's face.

Agnes didn't dodge; she just let her hit her.

She merely held onto Isabella tightly, tears streaming down her battered face.

"Hit me... hit me, as long as it makes you feel better. It doesn't matter if you beat me to death."

As she said this, she hugged Isabella even tighter.

Then she leaned close to Isabella's ear, her voice lowered, trembling and urgent. "Isabella, listen to me..."

Isabella instantly exploded. "Who

gave you permission to call me that?

What you the right to say my

name?!"

She grew even more furious, slapping Agnes across the face over and over again.

"Isabella, we don't have much time, you have to listen to me..."

"This might be the very last time we see each other. There's something I must tell you."

"Isabella, I am your mother. I am your biological mother..."

Her voice shook, delivering each word as if she were coughing up blood.

Isabella's hand froze mid-slap. "Wh... What did you say?!"

Tears poured down Agnes's face as she held her tightly. "Isabella, I really am your mother... your real mother."

Isabella's eyes widened in horror, staring dead at the incredibly

wretched, aged, wrinkled, and el

subservient face before her

Real mother?

This worthless maid was her real mother?!

"Impossible, you're talking nonsense!" Isabella completely rejected it.

She was clearly the heiress of the Lancaster family, the number one socialite of Vaelion City.

How could she possibly be the daughter of this lowly maid?

embrace

"It's true." Agnes wept openly, hugging her daughter tightly, pouring all her strength into the embrace "We don't have much time, listen to me..." .
