Tristan said, "Emily's had a long day. She's really tired, so I don't want to wake her. If you need to say anything, just tell me and I'll let her know tomorrow."
The officer's voice got a bit firmer. "Sorry, Mr. Davis, but we need to speak with her directly. It's just a few questions and won't take long. It won't disrupt Ms. Blair's rest, I promise."
Tristan's tone turned cold, like he was ready to pick a fight. "No. She's already sleeping. Maybe you don't care, but I do."
He didn't wait for a response before hanging up.
The officer stared at his phone, face serious. "He hung up."
"Call again," the female officer said without hesitation.
The male officer nodded and tried the number once more. This time, Tristan didn't even let it ring. He just ended the call.
The female officer put her hand on his, speaking quietly. "This really looks like something's wrong."
She quickly checked the system for Emily Blair's emergency contacts.
There was only one: Emma George.
She found Emma's number and called right away.
Even though it was late, Emma George was still up. “Hello, who is this?"
"Hi, Ms. George, this is the Central Police Department," the officer said. "We need to
ask your daughter, Ms. Blair, a few questions. Is she available?"
Emma was already snuggled in bed. She yawned, but after hearing it was the police, she perked up. "The police? Why do you need to talk to her?"
"It's just to confirm some information. There's nothing to worry about," the officer reassured her.
Emma relaxed a little. "Oh, okay. But she's not with me. Why are you calling me instead of her?"
“Ms. Blair isn't with you?" the officer asked. “Do you know where she is? We tried her phone but couldn't reach her, so we called you."
Emma thought for a moment. “She's been working late at the office. She didn't come home at all tonight. think she fell asleep there. If you could reach her, maybe they're
both asleep."
"Both?" the officer asked. "Who else is there?"
"My daughter and her boyfriend,” Emma said. “I called earlier and he picked up. He told me Emily was already sleeping at the office and couldn't answer."
"So she's at the company?" the officer confirmed.
“That's right. Maybe try again tomorrow. Honestly, it's late. It's normal for her to be asleep,” Emma said, sounding a bit annoyed.
"Alright, we understand. We won't bother you anymore. Good night," the officer replied.
After hanging up, the female officer grabbed her coat and stood up. “Emma George says Emily Blair is at her office. Let's go check it out."
The other officers nodded right away.
She picked up her car keys. “Keep it low-key. We'll take my car."
Everyone changed into plain clothes and piled into her car. She even drove around a few blocks before
heading to Emily Blair's company, just to make sure no one was watching them.
By now, the office building was almost empty except for a couple of security guards.
The female officer walked over to one of them. "Excuse me, is everyone finished for the night?"
The guard shook off his sleepiness and straightened up, though he sounded a bit impatient. "It's really late. Of course everyone's gone. If you need Something, Come back in
the morning."
