They still couldn’t let go of their suspicions.
All I couldsaywas, “If anything in my personal life affects the project, I’m willing to take full responsibility. I can even write it into the contract. I’ll use compensation as a way to show my
sincerity.”
Only then did they finally seem to relax a little, nodding in response.
“Alright then. We’ll be waiting to see your sincerity,Ms. Sawyer.”
When I heard them call me “Ms. Sawyer,”Irealized that this title actually had its perks.
At the very least, it felt good to hear it.
When I woke up after slitting my wrists, everything about the world felt strange. They all told me I
was Jonathan’s wife.
At first, I was happy, but I quickly noticed something odd–everyone kept calling me “Ms. Sawyer.”
No one ever called me “Mrs. Ford.”
The way they treated Alicia was like she was the one who was truly Jonathan’s wife.
At first, that made me sick to my stomach. I was angry and bitter. But now, to my surprise, I’ve started to feel like “Ms. Sawyer” was the name that actually belonged to me.
It turned out, love or no love… The difference really was that big.
The negotiations were finally wrapping up. Frederick and I walked them back to their rooms.
I’d planned to stay at the hotel tonight. As I turned to head back, Frederick called after me. “Want to grab something to eat?”
I paused. “It’s pretty late. You mean a midnight snack?”
“Yeah. Aren’tyouhungry?”
“Kinda… But maybe I’ll just stay hungry. Think of it as dieting.”
Frederick gave me a helpless look. “We’re supposed to be siblings now. Are you afraid of us goingouttogether, just the two of us?”
I sighed. “It’s not that I’m scared. I just honestly don’t feel like going out.”
“Alright then,” he said. “I’ll head back to my room. If you need anything, just let me know.”
I nodded. “Got it.”
With that, I headed straight back to my room to get some rest.
Just as I slipped off my jacket and hung it on the rack, my stomach growled.
I was starving, but I didn’t want to go out for a late–night snack with Frederick.

It was so late–just the two of us, a man and a woman alone. It really didn’t feel appropriate.
It wasn’t about staying loyal to Jonathan or anything like that–I just didn’t want to drag Frederick into anything messy.
He’d just announced in front of everyone that I was his sister, and that had already stirred up plenty of talk.
After all, we were both adults. No one was really going to believe we had a purely platonic sibling relationship.
Just like no one believed there was anything clear or innocent between Jonathan and Alicia.
Frederick had been good to me, and I didn’t want anyone to misunderstand his intentions.
As for me, I didn’t have any deeper feelings for him. I definitely wasn’t going to pull him into anything while I was still legally married.
It was late. I tossed and turned in bed for a long time, my hunger gnawing at me, until I finally gave in and decided to find something to eat.
I quickly threw on a coat and headed downstairs, but as soon as I got there, I saw a familiar car parked outside.
I froze, caught off guard. I hadn’t expected Jonathan to still be here.
Immediately, I turned around, not wanting to run into him.
Clearly, seeing him was worse than being hungry.
The car door opened. A long leg stepped out, wrapped in tailored suit pants, followed by the sharp click of leather shoes hitting the pavement, drawing closer.
I picked up my pace, but before I could get far, he pulled me into his arms. In one step, he cut off my path completely.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Jonathan’s voice was cold.
