Consumed by hatred, she acted on impulse, disguised herself as a cleaner, and snuck into the gated community. Then, while you were both inside, she slipped into the driveway and sabotaged the car."
Lizetta almost laughed at the absurdity of it.
"Do you actually believe that, Jerome?"
Jerome shook his head. "Of course not. Amber Hill Estate is a highly exclusive neighborhood with incredibly strict security. How could Jolin just casually throw on a uniform and stroll in?
And what are the odds she perfectly timed it on your very first visit there, caught the car parked in a camera blind spot, and managed to sabotage it without anyone noticing?"
His eyes were full of mockery. If Jolin truly had those kinds of skills, she wouldn't have been living on the streets in utter poverty.
Right now, he deeply regretted that he and Nelson had spared her pathetic life.
At the time, they figured death was too easy for someone like her; it was better to let her struggle in the mud, enduring endless disdain and suffering.
Who could have predicted that even in her miserable state, someone would use her to stir up a deadly storm in Zion City?
"Andrea drove me there in that car. Even if Jolin really did see us and acted on a sudden impulse, she couldn't possibly have known I'd end up demanding the car from Conrad. If she sabotaged the car then, the only person she would be trying to kill was her own biological daughter, Andrea."
Lizetta's voice was ice-cold.
Jerome nodded. "Jolin claimed she only saw you and Andrea getting out of the car, not who was driving. She figured a car that expensive had to be yours. Since Andrea had been kicked out of the Madden family, Jolin assumed Andrea couldn't afford it. That's why she tampered with it."
Jolin certainly knew how to spin a web of lies.
But Lizetta still found it entirely unbelievable. It had been broad daylight.
The villa was full of staff. Sneaking in and messing with a sports car wasn't exactly a walk in the park.
Besides, Jolin wasn't a professional mechanic. Did she even know where the brake control systems were located?
And even if she did, did she just coincidentally carry around mechanical tools?
When Lizetta voiced these doubts, Jerome let out a derisive scoff.
"She actually gave a step-by-step explanation of how she disabled the car. The police had her perform a practical demonstration, and she successfully ruined the brakes on test vehicle. She claimed that four months ago, to make ends meet, she worked as a cook at an auto repair shop and picked up some skills from the mechanics."
e'
Four months ago, Lizetta had only recently been brought back into the Madder family and her mental state was fragile
Jerome and Nelson's attention had been entirely focused on Lizetta, leaving them
little time to monitor anything else.
Jerome had already verified the
story. Jolin truly had worked at an auto repair shop for a brief period before getting fired for stealing from the owner.
"It really is a flawless setup. Too bad I don't buy for a second that Jolin acted alone."
Looking back at every step of that day, Lizetta knew it had to be a meticulously coordinated trap.
Remington hadn't spoken much, but at this point, he gently rubbed Lizetta's shoulder.
"Liz, walk us through exactly what happened that day. Don't leave out a single detail."
