Because Lizetta had been in a coma, Remington had kept the accident a total secret from his grandmother to spare her the anxiety.
Once Lizetta woke up, both of their attention had been entirely focused on Tranquil Meadows, causing them to neglect Fiona.
They never expected Eartha to be brazen enough to show up at the Dashiell estate.
"Don't panic. She should be fine. She's already regained consciousness," he assured her.
Seeing her about to hit the cold floor barefoot, he gripped her waist and lifted her right back onto the counter.
But how could she not worry? She grabbed his arm tightly.
"Is she really awake?"
He nodded. "She woke up in the ambulance. She's on a ventilator right now, so she
can't speak, but she'll be here any minute. Dry your hair, I'll go meet her."
Lizetta nodded obediently and shoved him toward the door.
"Go! I can take care of myself."
He reminded her to dry her hair properly and not to wander off before finally stepping out.
The second he left the room, his gaze turned lethally cold.
He dialed Cedric's number. As soon as it connected, he spoke.
"How is the task I gave you two days ago coming along?"
A murderous intent radiated through his tone. Cedric's mind raced, instantly pinpointing exactly which task he meant.
"Rest assured, sir. The lab acquisition is complete down to the final signature. All terms have been negotiated. The only hiccup is the Yates family. They're incredibly stubborn. They believe Eartha saved their daughter's life, making her their ultimate savior. They refuse to budge on the deal..."
Before Cedric could finish, Remington cut him off.
"Hah. Does a vicious snake like Eartha strike you as the type to save a life? It's far too much of a coincidence. Dig into it. I don't care what the truthris I want a definitive answer in an hour."
If someone dared cross the line, they would pay the ultimate price.
He hung up and sprinted out of the inpatient building just as an ambulance came screeching to a halt.
It was Fiona. Remington hurried forward to the gurney. She lay there with her eyes closed, an oxygen mask strapped over her face.
He grabbed her hand tightly, leaned in close, and whispered.
"Lizetta is fine. I promise."
Her grip on his hand relaxed slightly.
He gave her hand a reassuring pat before following the swarm of medics pushing the gurney into the emergency department.
A short distance away, a shady man in a baseball cap watched the scene unfold. He turned away and dialed Eartha's number.
"Ma'am, the old woman was just wheeled into the ER. She looks completely unresponsive. Remington Dashiell looked terrified.
"From the looks of it, he won't be paying attention to anything else anytime soon."
Eartha was still in the car heading back to Amber Hill Estate when she received the news.
A smug smile flashed across her
eyes. She couldn't be blamed foret
terrorizing an old woman,
Remington had brought it on himself by meddling in her affairs.
If he hadn't interfered, Lizetta would have died in that lake. Once the news of her death reached Tranquil Meadows, Nelson would have
undoubtedly dropped dead from shock.

Instead, Lizetta was still clinging to life. It lessened the impact and introduced far too
many unpredictable variables into her master plan.
