Jerome's persuasive words made Nelson let out a heavy sigh.
"You're right. I guess I really am just getting old..."
To think he still felt a trace of sorrow and sympathy. But remembering all the vicious things Eartha had done, Nelson's heart slowly hardened again.
If it turned out that Eartha had deliberately switched Lizetta at birth out of pure malice, then dying a thousand times wouldn't be enough to atone for her sins.
At the hospital.
Lizetta Gardenia woke up from a nap to a quiet room.
She looked around and didn't see Remington anywhere. Oddly, the emptiness left an ache in her chest.
It had only been two days, yet she realized she was already used to opening her eyes, turning her head, and finding him right there beside her.
Lizetta blinked, deciding not to dwell on it. She pulled her phone from under her pillow and dialed his number.
He answered almost immediately. Before the first ring could even finish, his deep, amused voice came through the speaker.
"Did my girlfriend miss me?"
Lizetta couldn't help but smile. "I did."
Remington clearly hadn't expected her to admit it so readily. His heart gave a slight tremor. His Adam's apple bobbed before he spoke.
"Keep yourself entertained for a bit. I'll be back soon, and I'll bring you something delicious, okay?"
Lizetta immediately rattled off a list. "Then I want ginger milk curd from Tranquil Meadows, and those little coconut milk squares from Windale..."
In one breath, she named six different snacks, purposely picking places scattered all across Zion City.
The car was silent, and Lizetta's voice carried perfectly over the line, loud enough for Cedric to hear.
Cedric mentally braced himself.
Ever since the boss won his wife back, she had apparently decided to lean fully into the demanding princess persona.
If he actually went around buying all six of those treats, he'd have to drive a massive circle around Zion City.
That would take at least two or three hours.
Cedric glanced at his boss and saw that Remington didn't look annoyed in the slightest.
In fact, looking afraid he might miss a single item, the man was lightly tapping his fingers against his knee.
Cedric knew that was Remington's tell the gesture he used when he was memorizing something important.
"Alright, I've got it all written down. I'll bring you everything."
Hearing the sheer adoration in his voice, Lizetta's smile grew even sweeter.
She laughed. "You don't have to. Le

Showing up at the office would definitely arouse Eartha's suspicions.
Remington was already on his way back to the hospital. He said,
"Mhm. Be a good girl and wait for me."
"Okay, I'm hanging up now."
She was just about to end the call when he stopped her.
"Hold on. Aren't you forgetting something?"
Lizetta looked confused. "What?"
His voice dropped to a seductive murmur. "You forgot to give your boyfriend a kiss."
Lizetta was speechless.
"Hurry up, give me a kiss," Remington pressed through the phone.
She rolled her eyes slightly. Anyone listening would think they hadn't seen each other in years.

But since he insisted, she smiled and made a smacking sound into the receiver.
"Mwah!"
The crisp sound echoed through the quiet car.
Remington looked immensely satisfied, but Cedric couldn't hold it in. He burst out laughing.
About to hang up, Lizetta froze. "I thought you were alone in your office?"
