Stella looked at Remington searchingly, her confusion and shock seeming too authentic to be faked.

Remington stared her down with icy eyes. "You don't know who did it?"

Stella froze, the color draining from her face as she scrambled to explain.

"Remington, you don't think it was me, do you? This has absolutely nothing to do with my family! I didn't even know Liz was the one who got hurt until two days ago. Really, you have to believe me!"

Stella grew visibly pale, evidently terrified that Remington was going to pin the blame on her.

Her reaction genuinely didn't seem like someone who had secret ties to Eartha.

Remington had harbored suspicions that Stella bringing Ron here was Eartha's way of double-checking Lizetta's condition.

It seemed he had overthought it.

Remington looked away. "It was an accident."

Stella's eyes widened in astonishment. An accident?

She felt it couldn't possibly be that simple, but regardless of who Lizetta had offended, Stella silently thanked them.

Outwardly, she put on a mask of deep sorrow, shedding a tear.

"The misunderstandings between Liz and me haven't even been cleared up yet, and now she's..."

Stella prepared to sob, looking for all the world like they were the closest of sisters. Remington's eyes turned freezing cold. He cut her off sharply.

"Liz is just sleeping. She'll wake up soon. Stop crying in here! Stop bringing that depressing energy in here!"

The utter disgust and loathing in his gaze cut into Stella like a knife.

She stiffened, quickly backpedaling.

"I'm sorry, Remington, that was careless of me. I believe she'll pull through too: She'll definitely wake up soon you need to take care of yourself and try not to worry too much. If she wakes up and sees you like this, she'll blame herself."

Her words seemed to have a soothing effect on him. The tension in his face eased slightly.

"Bring Ron over here and let's try."

Stella's heart leapt. This shift in his attitude gave her a glimmer of hope.

Just as she thought-without Lizetta in the picture, Remington would eventually see her worth.

She walked over, stopping right next to the hospital bed. Instead of letting her place him down, Remington reached out and took Ron directly from her arms, his voice freezing over again.

"That's enough. Step back! Liz doesn't like you at all. If she smells your perfume, she'll be too annoyed to wake up."

He treated her as though she carried the plague.

Stella felt deeply wounded, but she didn't dare disobey him. She reminded herself to play the long game.

The most critical objective right now was to confirm if Lizetta was truly unresponsive. She watched as Remington rested Ron on his lap, leaning close to Lizetta on the bed.

Gone was the cold, ruthless demeanor he had shown Stella. His profile was now filled with helpless, tender desperation as his voice dropped to a gentle whisper.

"Liz, Ron is here. Don't you love this little guy? He's so worried about you, look, he's crying. Can you wake up and look at him? Have you forgotten? You promised me we'd have lots of babies of our own. You haven't kept your promise yet, you can't just be lazy and sleep forever."

Lizetta, lying perfectly still, naturally didn't react. Remington looked down at Ron.

"Ron, call for your Auntie Liz."

As if he understood, Ron stuck his little bottom in the air and crawled toward the bed He reached out with his chubby hands, grabbing onto Lizetta's motionless hand and shaking it, babbling non-stop.

Lizetta was quickly discovering that faking a coma wasn't a job for the weak. She

had barely been lying there for a few minutes, but her entire body felt stiff, screaming at her to move.
