Bennett asked, "You're awake?"
"Yes," Yvonne nodded.
"Waking up so early? I guess I didn't tire you out too much last night," Bennett chuckled, lightly tapping the tip of her nose.
After all, they were outdoors, and the tent wasn't exactly soundproof. Bennett had been holding back, careful not to be too rough.
Yvonne shot him a playful glare. "Nicola is right here. Don't say things like that.”
Bennett's lips curved into a smirk as he sat down across from Yvonne, placing the food container on the table.
"I brought you breakfast. Eat it while it's hot. You used up a lot of energy last night, so you need to refuel." He opened the container and handed her a spoon.
"You're still talking nonsense," Yvonne grumbled, giving him another look before lowering her head to eat the porridge.
Bennett had bought it from a well-known Cantonese diner, and the porridge was quite good.
Yvonne ate half a bowl of porridge and two fried dumplings.
Nicola loved egg tarts. The little girl ate two in one go, hiccupping afterward.
"You little glutton," Yvonne said with a laugh, pinching Nicola's cheek.
Nicola really was adorable. Yvonne suddenly thought that having a cute little child with Bennett wouldn't be so bad.
Just as they finished breakfast and packed away the containers, Noah and Dominic returned.
Dominic was carrying a bucket half-full of various kinds of fish. It looked like they'd had a good catch.
"Daddy's the best!" Nicola praised, running over to Noah's side on her little legs.
Noah smiled and ruffled her hair.
He put the bucket on the ground, and Nicola crouched beside it, dipping her little hand inside to touch the slippery fish.
After playing for a moment, she lost interest and asked Noah, "Daddy, can we put the little fish back in the lake?"
"Why would we do that?" Noah teased his daughter.
"The bucket is too small. The fish aren't happy,” Nicola said, her cute face full of earnestness.
Hearing this, Noah ruffled her hair again and replied with a smile,
"Alright Daddy and Nicola will
the fish back in the lake togeth
"Hey! That's my prize! I was up at the crack you're
wn fishing for those, a t going to put them 1.el
Dominic complained dramatically.
His protest was clearly futile. Noah took Nicola's hand with one hand, carried the
bucket with the other, and headed toward the lake.
"What species even are these little brats? I am definitely never having kids," Dominic grumbled a bit more before heading back to his tent.
Letitia followed him closely, but Dominic couldn't be bothered to pay her any attention.
He was so annoyed by Letitia over the past couple of days that he didn't even bother packing his things. He just got in his car and drove off.
Letitia was so angry she looked like she was about to tear down the tent.
Bennett and Yvonne, of course, paid them no mind. Bennett's leave was only for a day, and he had to return to his base in the afternoon. They packed
their bags, said goodbye to Noah, and left.
After Noah and Nicola returned from releasing the fish, Nicola had had her fill of fun.
So, Noah packed up and drove his daughter home.
Noah drove while Nicola chattered away nonstop from her car seat in the back.
He didn't find her noisy at all, listening attentively and responding to everything she said.
The drive from the campsite back to the city took nearly two hours. Just as Nicola was starting to get restless, they finally arrived home.
"Mommy, Mommy!" Nicola ran into the house on her little legs, her first instinct to find her mother. But Karina wasn't back yet.
