She used considerable force.
But the moment the plate was in her hand, she let her fingers go slack.
Crash!
The plate shattered on the floor.
Even Rowena was taken aback for a second.
The loud noise caught Gavin's attention in his study. He immediately came out. "What happened? What was that?"
Ann turned to Gavin, her eyes red and welling with tears. "Dad... Rowena... I'm so sorry. I'm so useless. I'm twenty-eight years old and I can't even wash a dish properly..."
The scene was perfectly staged to look as if Rowena had been bullying Ann.
Rowena looked at Ann, her expression unchanged, her voice still gentle. "It's alright, Ann. It was just a broken plate. Please don't cry. From now on, when the nanny isn't here, you can leave the dishes to me. You shouldn't try to do them. It's lucky you only broke a plate. What if you had cut your hand? I would have felt terrible."
With that, Rowena gently guided Ann out of the kitchen.
Her flawless performance instantly dispelled any suspicion Gavin might have had.
He recovered quickly, smiling. "As long as no one's hurt, that's all that matters. Rowena, you can just leave the dishes for the nanny. There's no need for you to wash them yourself."
Rowena smiled back. "It's just a few dishes, an easy task. I just didn't expect Ann to be so sweet and rush in here to help me."
Ann narrowed her eyes, a venomous look flashing within them. This Rowena was a truly masterful actress. But she just had to wait. Her and her little bastard's good days were numbered.
Gavin added, "Alright, I'm going back to my office. Call me if you need anything." "Okay," Rowena nodded.
Gavin turned and went back into his study.
Ann stepped close to Rowena and hissed in a low voice, "Rowena, today was just the beginning. Just you wait. I will drive you and your son out of our house!"
"Oh?" Rowena's smile didn't waver. "I'll be waiting to see who gets kicked out."
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Ann went to open it.
The door swung open to reveal Ransom. He walked in without so much as a glance at Ann. "Where's my brother-in-law?"
Ann's eyes narrowed. This Sinclair pair was truly insufferable, treating her as if she were invisible.
Seeing her brother, Rowena feigned surprise. "Ransom, what are you doing here?" Ransom ignored her, striding to the study door and pounding on it. "Gavin! Come out! I have something very important to tell you!"
"What is it, Ransom?" Gavin asked, opening the door.
Ransom brandished the file folder in his hand. "Gavin, I have a big secret to reveal to you today!"
"What secret?" Gavin asked, intrigued.
Ransom glanced at Ann, then turned
back to Gavin. "Doesn't it strike you that your daughter looks nothing like. you? May maybe she's not your
biological daughter at all!"
Gavin frowned. "Ransom! I know you've never liked Ann, but she is my daughter. You can't just say things like that!"
Rowena chimed in angrily, "Ransom! You shut your mouth! How dare you spread such rumors? Apologize to your brother-in-law and Ann right now!"
"I'm not spreading rumors! From the first moment I saw Ann, I thought she didn't look like Gavin! I suspect she isn't Amanda's child with him at all! She's just some other man's child!"
With that, Ransom slammed the file onto the table. "So I secretly got samples from Gavin and Ann and took them to a DNA lab for a
paternity test. This is the report from the fab! Gavin, you can see for yourself whether Ann is your daughter or not!"
