"Money! Money!" The two little boys shouted in near-perfect unison.
Caitlin was speechless. She had no idea where her two little boys got their obsession with money.
Splat!
Just then, Gemma accidentally dropped a chicken drumstick on the floor. As she bent down to pick it up, Beatrice said, "Gemma, sweetie, it's dirty now that it's on the floor. Don't pick it up. Grandma will get you a new one."
"Was'e!" Jasper walked over, picked up the dropped drumstick, and declared, ""Spensive!"
With that, he scurried off with the drumstick in hand.
"Jasper, where are you going?" Caitlin called after him.
Beatrice shook her head with a helpless smile. "It's obvious. Jasper is taking the drumstick to Monday. That boy is the spitting image of Gordon when he was little!"
"How so?" Caitlin asked.
Beatrice laughed. "He's just as stingy."
She leaned in and added, "Catie, haven't you noticed? Gordon is actually quite the penny-pincher. Remember when he let Skyler borrow his car? He only covered the first twenty miles or so. Anything over that, and Skyler had to pay for the gas himself!"
Caitlin was stunned; she had never noticed that. "Really, Mom? You're not joking, are you?"
"Of course it's true," Beatrice whispered. "Though, I will say, he seems to have gotten a lot better since he married you."
However, while Gordon might have improved, his two sons had inherited his old habits. The power of genetics was truly undeniable.
Elsa had been having a wonderful time at the Forrester household these past few days. She barely had to lift a finger. Food was served to her, and chores were done for her. People say marriage is the death of romance, but Elsa couldn't disagree more. Her marriage was blissful.
Xander, however, was starting to worry.
After all, it had been nearly a week. Logically, if Caitlin was testing them, the test should have been over by now But he hadn't heard a single word about Caitlin from Elsa.
Just as Xander was trying to figure out how to subtly probe Elsa for information, she spoke up. "Honey, want to go out this afternoon? I haven't been shopping in ages."
Go out?
Xander's eyes narrowed. The first time they had run into Caitlin, Elsa had also suggested going out for a stroll Perhaps this was it. Perhaps Elsa was planning to take him to see Caitlin today.
Yes, that had to be it.
At that thought, a broad smile spread across Xander's face. "Sure! Let me go change."
Meeting someone like Caitlin required a more formal outfit.
"Okay," Elsa nodded. "I'll go change too. Oh, honey, which outfit do you think looks better on me?" She pulled two outfits from the closet.
Xander pointed to one of them without much thought. "That one. That one looks great!"
Elsa smiled. "Then I'll go put it on."
Soon, they arrived at the mall.
Elsa was browsing the restaurant listings. "Honey, what do you want to eat for lunch?"
"I'm fine with anything. It's more about what you all want to eat," Xander replied. Today, Caitlin was the guest of honor, so her opinion was what mattered most. "'You all"?" Elsa paused, confused. "It's just you and me. Who else is there?"
Xander realized his slip-up and
quickly covered with a laugh. "A slip of the tongue, my bad. What I
meant, darling is that you should eat whatever you want. have no objections. I'm just here to make you happy."
