Caitlin was the type to prepare for the worst, even if some things seemed unlikely. Children had almost no sense of danger, which was why so many kidnappings were done by people they already knew.
As a mother, she had to think of every possibility to prevent danger. Most importantly, Elsa had been close to her and knew the triplets' routines inside and out. If she harbored any ill intentions toward them, it would be dangerously easy for her to succeed if they weren't on guard.
Hearing Caitlin's warning, Carey nodded gravely. "Alright, Freya, I understand. Don't you worry. Your father and I won't let them out of our sight for a second."
Stuart added his reassurance. "Freya, with your mother and me here, you don't have to worry about the children's safety at all. I will not let anyone harm them."
He had failed to protect his wife and daughter once before, leading to more than two decades of separation. Stuart was determined never to let history repeat itself.
Caitlin managed a small smile. "Mom, Dad, I'm leaving them in your hands, then."
"You can count on us," Stuart said, patting his chest. "You two go on to work without a worry."
After speaking with her parents, Caitlin left for the office with Gordon.
Stuart and Carey took her warning seriously. They didn't dismiss her concerns, bringing a total of eight bodyguards with them as they took the three children to the park.
As soon as they arrived, they spotted Gertrude waiting for them.
"Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Gonzales," Gertrude called out, waving from the
entrance.
"Gertrude," Carey responded warmly.
The triplets were thrilled to see her.
"Gertrude!"
All three of them swarmed her, leaving Gertrude at a loss for who to hug first. She ended up giving each of them a quick embrace.
"Jasper, Silas, Gemma, I brought you gifts today! Come see which one you want." Gertrude then presented three toy robots.
"I want dis one!"
Just as Gertrude had predicted, Jasper immediately claimed the pink robot, clutching it as if afraid Gemma would snatch it away.
"I like dis one!" Silas chose the green one.
Gemma happily took her favorite, the blue one.
Carey smiled. "Gertrude, you're always bringing them gifts. I heard your husband's company is in a crucial growth phase. He must be swamped with work. How does he find the time to make these robots? The scripting and programming must be so complicated
"Mrs. Gonzales, they're just little toys. It's not as much trouble as you think. As long as Jasper, Silas, and
Gemma like them that's all that matters
As if on cue, the three children began to jump up and down, their excitement palpable.
"Like them! Very much like them!"
"Yay, Gertrude!"
"You're very welcome," Gertrude said, patting each of their little heads.
The group, consisting of Gertrude, Carey, Stuart, and the eight bodyguards, began
to enjoy their day at the park with the children.
It was a Sunday, and the park was crowded.
Elsa was one of the shadows in that crowd. She didn't dare get too close, instead using a pair of binoculars to watch the three children from a distance.
Seeing Gertrude laughing and chatting so happily with Carey and Stuart, Elsa's face turned pale with rage, her features twisting into an ugly mask.
Disgusting. Gertrude was absolutely disgusting. Just the other day, Elsa had knelt on the ground for two full hours, begging for her forgiveness, and Gertrude hadn't even given her a second glance. And now she was fawning all over Carey. If Carey and Stuart didn't have their current status and wealth, would Gertrude be so warm and friendly?
