Some things are better left unsaid.
Once that charlatan made Hannah's condition worse, the Richards family would naturally come begging her for help, overflowing with gratitude. The thought made Ann's lips curl into a subtle, secret smile, hidden from everyone else.
Meanwhile.
Caitlin waited outside the hotel for the Richards family's car to arrive.
At the same time, the Richardses were pulling up to the curb. Their driver was at the wheel, Warren and Jade sat together in the back seat.
Jade kept glancing anxiously out the window. "Didn't Irene say Dr. Kensington would be waiting right by the street? I don't see anyone who looks like her."
There were plenty of people along the sidewalk-mostly young tourists with backpacks and cameras. In Jade's mind, even if Dr. Kensington was considered "young," she would have guessed someone in her forties or fifties at the very least.
Warren took out his phone. "I'll give her a call."
Irene had already sent them Caitlin's number.
Jade nodded quickly. "Yes, call her."
Warren dialed. The call connected almost immediately.
"Hello?"
The voice on the other end was clear and pleasant surprisingly young, with a sincerity that couldn't be faked.
Warren had the speakerphone on. When they heard that voice, Jade's eyes widened in disbelief, and even Warren was briefly stunned. Irene had mentioned Dr. Kensington was young, but neither of them expected her to sound this young -barely eighteen or nineteen, if they had to guess.
Of course, Warren reminded himself, some people kept youthful voices well into old age. Perhaps Dr. Kensington was just one of those cases.
He composed himself. "Hello, is this Dr. Kensington? This is Warren Richards— we invited you to the hospital to see my mother."
"Yes, this is Caitlin Kensington."
"I'm at the address you sent. Where should we meet you?"
Caitlin replied, "I'm standing outside the hotel, wearing a black coat and carrying a medical kit. You'll find me under the old sycamore tree east of the main entrance."
The ancient tree was a well-known landmark in Neon Spire.
At her words, Warren and Jade immediately turned to look in that direction, and there she was—a slender young woman standing beneath the sprawling branches.
Both husband and wife stared in shock.
Good heavens! Miss Kensington was even younger in person than she sounded
on the phone. It was hard to make out her face from this distance, but her posture and poise were unmistakably refined.
Warren managed to collect himself. "I see you now. We'll be right there." He ended the call, still trying to mask his astonishment.
As he hung up, Jade whispered anxiously, "Warren, are you sure this Miss Kensington really knows how to perform the Golden Needle Channel Activation?"
Warren replied, “Irene vouched for her, and I trust Irene's judgment. Besides, at this point, we need to try everything we can for Mom."
Jade gave a hesitant nod.
Warren told the driver to pull over. He and Jade got out and walked toward the sycamore tree.
Caitlin, observing their manner and attire, guessed immediately who they were. She stepped forward and greeted them, "Mr. and Mrs. Richards?"
Jade asked, "Are you Dr. Kensington-the one Irene recommended?" "Yes, I'm Caitlin," she replied with a polite nod.
As Warren finally got a good look at Caitlin's face, he froze in place, eyes wide with disbelief. Even his pupils seemed to contract-he could hardly believe what he was seeing.
