Impossible. It has to be impossible.
But the Richards family erupted in cheers.
Warren hurriedly asked, "Does this mean we can see my mother now?"
"Yes, of course."
Caitlin nodded. "Please, come with me."
Everyone followed Caitlin into the sterile room.
Right at that moment, Hannah stirred awake. She looked around in confusion, pressing a trembling hand to her forehead. Her voice was still weak, but her face had lost that deathly pallor; color was already returning to her cheeks.
"What... what happened to me?"
Ann's face went white as a sheet.
How could this be happening?
She'd been sure she'd walk in to see Hannah's corpse. Instead, Hannah was awake alive!
What's going on? Did that little blonde girl really manage to save her?
No way. She's far too young-there's no way she could be that skilled. It must
have been dumb luck, or maybe the hospital's treatment finally worked. Caitlin just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
Otherwise, why wouldn't Caitlin even want a nurse or assistant with her? Once the doors to the sterile room closed, who could know what she did in there?
The more Ann thought about it, the more convinced she became.
If she'd known this would happen, she would have claimed she had medical training too. After all, Hannah was bound to wake up anyway. If she'd been the one in the room, she'd be the hero now.
The thought made Ann sick with regret.
Meanwhile, the Richards family could hardly contain their joy. Just three hours ago, Hannah had been hovering between life and death. Now she was awake, looking at them with a faint smile.
"Grandma's awake!"
"Mom! You're okay! Oh, thank God, you're really okay!" Warren and his seven brothers rushed to her bedside, tears streaming down their faces.
Jade and the seven sisters-in-law wept with happiness.
"Mom, are you feeling all right? Is there any discomfort?" one of the daughters-in- law asked.
Hannah could feel her strength returning. Looking at the faces of her children and grandchildren, she smiled warmly. "No, I'm fine. Truly. There's no need to worry about me."
Adelina quickly chimed in, "Mom, you have no idea how close we were to losing you. Dr. Fairchild had even asked us to prepare for the worst. If it weren't for Dr. Kensington-she's the one who saved you. She's the Richards family's guardian
angel!"
"She's right, Mom," another son added. "Dr. Kensington is the reason you're still with us!"
"Dr. Kensington?" Hannah's eyes clouded with faint memory-a young woman at her bedside, giving her an injection-but she couldn't tell if it had been real or just a dream. "Where is she? Where's Dr. Kensington?"
"I'm right here, ma'am." Caitlin stepped forward.
Seeing Caitlin, Hannah's eyes widened in disbelief. For a moment, she was speechless. Then, as if a dam had broken, she grasped Caitlin's hand; tears flooded her eyes as she cried out, "Freya! Freya, my darling Freya! You've finally come back. You came back to me, just like you promised. Oh, I wasn't dreaming after all!"
