Chapter32
“If a child goes astray, the blame lies with the father.”
All of this was his fault?
“Grandpa, you don’t have to apologize. Your granddaughter’s amazing–it I wanted to get into Central Academy, I could do it with or without their help!” Caitlin placed a reassuring hand on Fortune’s shoulder, striking a protective pose, as if she were the one looking after him. I’ve learned a lot this past year with the Chandlers. Not only can I handle my studies, but I can also make enough to take care of you?
“From now on, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the good life with me!”
Fortune smiled warmly and nodded. “Alright, I believe you, Catie.”
At that moment, Fortune simply thought his granddaughterwastrying to cheer him up
It never occurred to him that her words would one day become reality.
They stepped out of the apartment complex, and across the river, a row of elegant villas came into view.
Caitlin grinned. “Grandpa, what do you think of these houses?
“They’re beautiful,” Fortune replied, nodding. “I heard from one of my coworkers that there are even swans in the lake here!”
Caitlin pointed across the water. “One day, we’ll buy a place right here. I even hire a couple of housekeepers to look after you.”
Fortune chuckled. “Catie, as long as you care, it doesn’t matter where I live, I’m happy wherever you are.”
Caitlin didn’t bother to explain further.!!
Soon enough, her grandfather would see her abilities for himself.
Around four in the afternoon, Caitlin got a message from Victor on WhatsApp. He wanted to meet at a café-clearly, he had something important to discuss.
Caitlin arrivedontime.
She was barely at the door when a man in a suit came barreling toward
d her
He jabbed a fingerather, his face flushed with anger. “You! Howdareyou show your face, you froud!”
Caitlin had been called many things at the top of her field-“Boss,” “Miss Kensington,” “Professor Kensington–but never a “fraud.” For a moment, she just stared at him, puzzled “Fraud? What exactly did I do to you?”
That’s when she realized who he was.l
Skyler, heir to the Cumming Group
Skyler’s brow was furrowed in outrage. “My uncle helped you in the elevator that day, and this is how you repay him? You misdiagnosed him–called an acute imbalance a case of exhaustion–and nearly got him killed!“?
The more Skyler thought about it, the angrier he became. If he weren’t determined not to hit a woman, he’d have pinned Caitlin to the ground and given her a piece of his mind right then.
I
Memones clicked into place for Caitlin, her expression turning serious. “Wait. So,he didn’t take the medicine I prescribed?”
Skyler glared at her. “Of course not! You said if he didn’t take your medicine, he’d fall into a coma in three days. Today is the third day! Not only is he perfectly fine, but after seeing Dr. Shepherd, he’s healthier than ever. Are you stillgoingto denyyou’rea fraud?‘:
Cartlin kept her composure and explained patiently. “Exhaustionandacute imbalance can look nearly identical at the final stage. The symptoms might seem to improve even without treatment, but it’s actually getting worse. If he doesn’t take the right medicine, he’s guaranteed to collapse before nine tonight”
She wasn’t exaggerating
As a doctor, she’d dealt with stubbom patients before
Skyler let out a densive laugh
Before nine tonight? Caitlin really had nerve
a
Her so called deception had already been exposed, and now shewasjust doubling down. Unbelievable–shewas like a stone that didn’t fear boiling water.
“Do I look like an idiot to you? Still trying to fool me? Do you even know who Dr Shepherd is? He’s a legend! His diagnosis can’t possibly be wrong. In fact, he said your prescription was toxic–dangerous enough to do real harm ”
How could a teenager like Caitlin compare to Hackett Shepherd?
Caitlinglanced at her phone to check the time. “Every remedy has its risks. Even poisons can cure if you know how tousethem. It’s no Surprise others can’t read my prescription. But I assure you, I’dneverdeceive you. Besides, traditional medicine has a long and profound
history–every good doctor has their own approach. Dr. Shepherd may be skilled, butthatdoesn’t mean he’s better than
She spoke with an unshakable confidence, but there was no arrogance in her tone–just a quiet radiance, as if she was born for this!
She pulled a slip of paperanda pen from her bag, jotted down her number, and handed it to Skyler. “Here’s my contact info. If your uncle falls unconscious, call me immediately.”
She only left her number out of gratitude for Gordon’s help that day.
If it had been up to Skyler’s attitude, she wouldn’t have wasted another second.
Skyler laughed as if she’d just told the world’s funniest joke, crumpled the paper, and tossed it to the floor. “There’s no telling what kind of people you’ll meet these days. When Dr. Shepherd was making a name for himself in Silverhaven, you hadn’t even been bom! My uncle’sfullyrecovered–there’s no way he’ll collapse before nine. Save your scare tactics for someone else!”
Caitlin didn’t take offense. She gazed at Skyler coolly. “In that case, I wish you the best of
