Keira never imagined that Old Mrs. Somerset would say something like that. She was completely stunned.

Having known Old Mrs. Somerset for so many years, she never knew this side of her. Before Keira could even process it, Old Mrs. Somerset continued.

"But, Keira, even though my Jeremiah is very pleased with Freya and fell for her at first sight, we do have a few conditions. As you know, the Somerset family is a family of scholars and principles. Not just anyone can marry into our family. So, our first condition is that if Freya marries into our family, she cannot have children. She must treat Dragon as her own son."

Although Caitlin looked thin and likely infertile, what if she could conceive? You could never be too careful! It was better to be upfront about these things. Dragon was, after all, the eldest grandson of the Somerset family, raised by Old Mrs. Somerset herself. She had to protect her grandson's interests.

"Second, my Jeremiah is a rare talent for his age. Marrying your Freya is, frankly, a bit of a compromise for him. So, we must agree that not only can Freya not have children, but your Stuart and Carey cannot have a second child either."

As long as Stuart and Carey didn't have another child, Caitlin would be the sole heir to the Gonzales family. If Caitlin was the heir, it meant Jeremiah would be the heir! But if Stuart and Carey had another child, the Gonzales family fortune would have nothing to do with Jeremiah. The only reason Jeremiah had condescended to marry Caitlin was for the Gonzales family's wealth and inheritance. Without that, what was the point of his sacrifice?

"Third, my Dragon has severe allergies to cat and dog fur. When Jeremiah marries your Freya, he will naturally be moving into this manor. Therefore, that dog Freya keeps... it's best to get rid of it as soon as possible!"

"Fourth, for Freya to marry into our family, she must come with a dowry of no less than ten digits. After all, no matter how you look at it, my Jeremiah is the one making the sacrifice here."

After laying out her terms, Old Mrs. Somerset turned to look at Keira, her face filled with smug satisfaction. Keira must be thrilled right now! Why else would she be speechless for so long? After all, Keira had watched Jeremiah grow up. She knew how outstanding he was. For Jeremiah to even consider Caitlin, the Gonzales family was hitting the jackpot!

Keira's face had turned pale with rage. She had thought this was just a friendly chat between old friends She never expected Old Mrs.

Somerset to utter such inde

words, every sentence dripping with condescension and contempt for Caitlin. She even wanted Caitlin to pay to marry Jeremiah! Who the hell* did Jeremiah think he was? He wasn't worthy!

Jeremiah? He wasn't just a graduate of a second-rate university that his family had bought him into; he had taken three years to barely pass his senior year. And he wasn't even five-foot-five! A man like that wasn't even qualified to be her

granddaughters assistant! Kerra couldn't fathom how Old Mrs.

Somerset could say such things. It was utterly shameless!

After a long moment, Keira finally reacted. She shot up from her chair, pointing a trembling finger at Old Mrs. Somerset. "Maura! Get out! Get the hell out of my house! From this day forward, the friendship between the Gonzales family and the Somerset family is over!"
