At that thought, Old Mrs. Somerset's eyes narrowed. "If Stuart wants me to forgive that old hag from the Gonzales family, just going to the office to see Jeremiah won't cut it! He needs to come to the Somerset estate and apologize to me personally!"
After all, she was the one Keira had offended, not Jeremiah.
Old Mrs. Somerset had expected it would take a few days for the Gonzales family to make a move. She never thought Stuart's apology would come so quickly.
Just wait, she thought. Soon, the Gonzales family will be here, begging me.
Leonie finally caught her breath, her face pale. "Ma'am, you've misunderstood. Mr. Gonzales isn't coming to apologize. He's canceled the partnership with Somerset Group! His secretary is already at the company now."
The truth was, Somerset Group owed its current success entirely to Gonzales Holdings. It was because they were backed by them that they were able to secure deals with other corporations.
Once the news that Gonzales Holdings had ceased their partnership got out, other companies would surely follow suit and terminate their contracts as well.
It would be a domino effect, a single move that would bring everything crashing down.
Jeremiah clearly understood the gravity of the situation. His eyes widened in disbelief. "What did you say? Gonzales Holdings is terminating our contract?"
How could that be possible? He started to wonder if he was hearing things.
His secretary nodded. "You heard me right. That's what the person from Gonzales Holdings said."
Old Mrs. Somerset was completely dumbfounded. "There must be a mistake! A mistake! Is Stuart completely disregarding the bond between our families?"
Old Mr. Gonzales and Old Mr. Somerset had a life-and-death bond.
Years ago, if Old Mr. Somerset hadn't carried Old Mr. Gonzales out of a pile of bodies, he would have died long ago.
And now, Stuart was turning his back on them without a second thought! How could he face the late Old Mr. Somerset? How dare the Gonzales family do this? For an unwanted granddaughter, they were willing to offend the Somersets so grievously. Did the Gonzales family even want to repair relations with them? Were they insane?
"Mr. Gonzales's secretary brought the termination documents with him." The secretary looked at Jeremiah. "Mr. Somerset, you should head to the company right away! Maybe there's still a chance to turn things around."
Jeremiah immediately grabbed his car keys and bolted out the door, with his secretary close behind.
He raced to the office. Just as the secretary had said, Stuart's assistant, Fitch, was already there waiting for him.
Fitch held a file and looked at
Jeremiah. "Mr. Somerset, I'm here
on behalf of Mr. Gonzales. He
instructed me to inform you that
starting today, our partnership with your company is officially
terminated Here is the notice o
contract termination. Please review
it."
Jeremiah took the document and flipped through a few pages. "Secretary Fitch, are you certain Mr. Gonzales wants to terminate the contract with Somerset Group?"
On the way over, Jeremiah had thought it through. There was no way Stuart would actually terminate the contract. First, Stuart admired him. Second, Old Mr. Somerset had saved Keira's husband's life.
Therefore, Stuart must be using this as a threat to scare him. The old Gonzales matriarch had just offended his mother, and Stuart Was too proud to apologize directly, so he resorted to this tactic. His goal was simple: he wanted Jeremiah to personally visit the Gonzales family and sue for peace.
Ha! Did Stuart really think he was easily frightened? Ridiculous! He wouldn't go to
the Gonzales family, and he certainly wouldn't let his mother be humiliated by Keira for nothing.
The Gonzales family had to answer for this.
With that in mind, Jeremiah's eyes narrowed. He looked at Fitch and scoffed, "Secretary Fitch! Be so kind as to inform Mr. Gonzales that Keira offended my mother, and he must come to apologize in person Otherwise my mother will never forgive her."
"I'll give him three days. If he fails to come and apologize to my mother by then, the
bond between our families is over. We will go our separate ways!"
He wanted to see if Stuart really dared to cut ties with his family.
